SOCOM 4 Full Deployment Edition

Well, I've been wanting to snag Move and a Sharpshooter ever since I picked up a PS3 again, and the perfect opportunity has finally arrived to do so. With PS Heroes, Time Crisis, SOCOM 4 and KZ3, there are plenty of reasons to have at least one move setup, and Sony is making it a little bit more affordable for SOCOM fans to enjoy the game in all of its glory. They just announced the Full Deployment Edition that includes the game, both Move controllers, an Eye camera and the Sharp Shooter gun. All of that is available for $149.99... a savings of what looks like close to $50 when you consider the fact that KZ3's Move bundle is $139.99 without the Eye or the SS.

Needless to say, I preordered this bundle.

The SOCOM 4 Full Deployment Edition includes:

  • SOCOM 4 U.S. Navy SEALs Blu-ray disc
  • PlayStation®Move motion controller
  • PlayStation®Move navigation controller
  • PlayStation®Eye camera
  • PlayStation®Move sharp shooter

Now Playing: Killzone 3

Welp, I've been playing Killzone 3 for the last couple of nights, and I'm extremely impressed so far. Visually, the game is as stunning as a game in 720p can be. I haven't had any framerate issues at all when playing multiplayer, and the game is very smooth for the intense visuals.

So far, I've limited myself to multiplayer. I've maxed out my Marksman tree (except for the last two secondaries), and I've starting putting the Medic to work. I love both of the classes so far, and they provide a complete 180 from each other. Beyond them, I will probably go Tactition, because no one seems to know how to steal anything. The classes are fun, although the weapons do have limitations. Overall, the game gets by with just a handful of weapons to choose from, but an expansion that includes new weapons to choose from would add to the game after a month+ of serious play.

The best part of the multiplayer experience thus far has to be the maps. There are eight new maps, plus two retro maps available, and each is done in a way that promotes multiple game styles. On top of that, the maps are different sizes depending on the game type, and that provides yet another level of experience.

Corinth Highway, a map dedicated to the lovers of ranged gameplay, is a favorite of mine when using my Marskman skills. Equipped with the 1-shot-1-kill sniper rifle, I've gone 12 kills and 4 deaths or better on this map with great consistency. For players that are not holding a giant barrel with a scope on it, there are side alleys that provide great alternates to dodging 50 caliber sniper bullets while sprinting through the middle of the map.

Kaznan Jungle is another favorite, and the map is starting to gain popularity when voting. This map is divided into an upper and lower ground, and allows gameplay to happen in very different ways. I normally take my Medic with an SMG into this map and live in the bright red tunnels that lead you to different areas on the map. Using proximity minds, I protect my back while mowing through enemies and reviving teammates. Having that self-revive is a great help here as well for when you get shot and the killer forgets to double tap the Medic... that is Rule #2 after all... This map is especially fun when you play with a good team that enjoys in-your-face combat. If you can secure the ammo depots in the tunnels, the action is limited only by your ability to get kills.

I'm going to be posting a review of the game, but I want to give the single player a full playthrough first. Since I've gotten a PS3 again, I've had some ideas for what I'd like to snag a platinum on, and KZ3 is a definite contender. There are a lot of trophies, but they don't seem to be the most difficult to get. For those that are into that kind of thing, it should at least be a rental for a couple playthroughs (elite and easy) and for a break from your multiplayer game of choice; mine was MAG, but it looks like KZ3 will take its place until SOCOM 4 takes control of my life. I'm also grabbing move and a sharpshooter when my tax return gets here. I'll let everyone that is a bit skeptic know how that is. I played with a kid last night that was consistently placing above my 2.0 k/d, and even overshadowing my 11 and 1 games, etc... all with a sharpshooter. Sounds like a fun thumb-break to me.

If you are playing... or if you want a PS3 friend that plays a good number of games, add me:

Back on a PS3

Well, I finally got a chance to pick up another PS3. To say the least, I'm glad. I'll always be an Xbox guy at heart, but there is just no way that you can get your fix as a gamer without owning all 3 systems. I'm trying to avoid grabbing "Move" in favor of my "Kinect" and the Wii, but I'm sure I will eventually. The huge deterrent being the fact that you have to at least drop another $80 on a 2nd controller to make it worthwhile.

I currently have LBP2 and MAG with Dead Space 2 out for an extended rental. I should be picking up DC: Universe Online in the next week, and those will be all of the games that I own for a while. I MIGHT grab Killzone, but that will depend on whether the Socom beta is a key that I can snag somewhere, or if you have to have the disc. I could always just rent it if it works like Halo: ODST did with the Reach beta.

My PSN name is Sunday83, so toss me a request if you wanna get some games in!

GAMESPOT Marketplace

So, I took a bit of a break from Gamespot as I tried to find a reason to use IGN. I still, after so so many years of trying, can not for the life of me justify using a site who's community aspect is non-existent at best. After re-exploring Gamespot, I was happy to see the addition of the new Marketplace.

Forever, we have been limited to selling games through retailers such as EB/Gamestop who manage to milk us for $100/game (60 plus the 40 that they make after re-selling OUR game), or by selling through auction-based websites. I for one am 100% in favor of a competitive market, and the new Marketplace will help to make that a reality.

After browsing for several of the games on my wish-list, and just looking at some holiday hits like Kinectimals, it is safe to say that I will be making a purchase and/or sale on the Marketplace soon. Kinectimals and Your Shape are available for $38 + $3 shipping. Both are new Kinect titles that were hot purchases to accompany the new Kinects under trees, and both are listed as being in original packaging with shrink-wrap intact. I will definitely be purchasing Your Shape to help me get back on the Ice Rink, and I think that testing the Marketplace with this purchase is a great option.

What are people's thoughts? Will you be selling games via the Marketplace? Or, will you continue to get instant "return" on your investment by trading in via Gamestop? Selling Mint-Condition games for $30 or $40 sure beats a $15 trade-in in my book.

Welp... time to blog.

Being the journalism major that I am, an avid gamer, and a die-hard Gamespot user, I figured it was a good time to start my blog here.

I'm not sure that I will blog often, but I am thinking about getting into some game reviews. I also play in multiple "Be-A-Pro" online leagues, and I may post info about that from time to time. Having played on top Fifa and NHL teams, I've played games that are blog worthy, but does anyone actually care?

I just picked got a Kinect for Christmas, and I just started getting into it. I can't wait to put serious time into it, and I will definitely be posting some info on that shortly.

As a little bit of an intro to myself... I own a Wii and a 360 that has been Kinected. I do play some PC games, and yes I subscribe to WoW, but I am a consoler through and through. I own an Android device, and although I don't game much on it, I can definitely recommend a time-killer or 8. Chances are that I will pick up the Playstation Phone that will run on Android... That would probably get me into some phone-based gaming. As would a tablet if I pick one up soon. Chances are also high that I will pick up a 3DS to play the mobile Zeldas that may arise.

Thanks for reading (even though no one did),
