I liked the game at first. The challenging boss fights and the intense gameplay that requires the right amount of finesse to execute to its fullest were very alluring to me and kept the title from getting repetitive. However, the $60 price tag for a 4 hour story (my official clear time was 4 hours and 5 minutes) was hardly worth it. I was satisfied with the game until it ended after so little.
Cartridge VS. Optical Disc...the true classic video game argument. Do we want a system using a disc type meida format which may hold more and offer up better graphics or do we want a good, quick, reliable system that may not be bowling anyone over on sheer graphical prowess? I heard the PSP had some excruciating load times but 4 minutes for Smackdown v Raw? Seriously, if you don't drag it out the matches last an average of two or three minutes. Some of the load times listed there are excruciating. I'm glad I opted for the less expensive DS. The emphasis on graphics is actually, imho, hurting the games. People push for great graphics and focus on making visually impressive games that just fall flat when you examine their playability. That isn't true across the board but it is for the majority. When a system is down in power and can't compete visually (like the DS v. the PSP) the weaker system puts more of an emphasis on making fun, enjoyable, addicitve video games. I'd rahter wait a few seconds and get a "crappy" looking, fun game than wait 4 minutes just to play a freaking wrestling title. Sony is really really losing it. I expect to see sony's new share of the next-gen market start out weak and end up weaker.
Sony's really hurting right now. They're going to lose major chunks of the market. Aside from this ridiculous attempt to render DVD obsolete with Blu-Ray the excessive price tag and now what appears to be another looming hardware shortage are going to kill their market share. And I'm certain that even with Sony's world-wide bottomless bucket 'o' bucks some of the third party companies aren't going to tolerate such problems when the 360 and the Wii are so ready to take their titles. Sony is going to get hurt on this one.
