Jeez Ive had 5 land battles today and 4 0f them have used Artillery.:o
I only used to play online total war with medieval 1 and the unwritten rule was never to deploy Artillery on a land battle which was fair enough as it could be an unfair advantage.
Maybe Ive just encountered sucky players or the unwritten rule has gone the way of the Dinosaurs ?:P
As a rule I tend to not bother with the multiplayer component of total war as I got fed up of waiting for players to ready up and then they would drop out after 10 minutes of waiting but Shogun is good when you have a decent opponent.
I dont mean to sound like a whinger but one battle I had today was with this guy who had a Trebuchet(or whatever Japanese varient ?) at the top of a hill ringed with countless units of spearmen and archers and I was expected to march all the way up that Hill as he wouldnt move an inch. Kind of sucks seeing as it wasnt a seige battle.
Only you should be able to know as I dont know which factions are still in the game your playing and also your economic situation. Build up a big enough Army for defence then plan a campaign against another faction. Me personally I invade a faction with 3 stacks I have two that are a mixture of Infantry Missile and Cavalry and I always use plenty of mercanaries in my armies such as greek hoplites and plenty of Cretan Archers and peltists I use the Roman legionaries as my Infantry and Roman Cavalry. Then I have another stack which is only Cavalry. If I see an enemy stack then I send in my Cav stack to soften them up. Also you need a strong Navy I find.
I for one am dfinatley getting this. I think it looks better than Empire IMO. Also I'm fed up with the Europe campaign map this looks like a pleasant change.
