MovieMark17 Blog

I'm going! I'm finally going!

Hello! It seems like I'm apologising quite a lot recently due to certain blogs  Though (I think… ) drunk Mark went down much better than rant Mark, so all is good :D

^ MovieMark is sowwy

The title?

Well, it refers to my summer holidays. Which, to say the least, have been consistently changing. Various different people asking me to go on such and such a trip. But I've found the one… I'm going to China! I'll splurge on the details once I have more, but we're been arranging to get the visa within the next few weeks. There's so much culture there…so much history… and unfortunately - so much poverty…as well as being a truly glorious experience, I think it'll be a severe eye-opener, too. Whatever the case, I can't wait. It's something I've always wanted to do.

Sleep! Heck no!

A few of you suggested I sleep after work. Not me. I'm too cool 8) I went to a gig last night with only 3 hours of sleep in me. It was AMAZING. I went to see Jimmy Eat World - front row, centre - it was phenomenal!

They had a really great set list, though I didn't know a few of their newer songs, which was really awkward being only 4 or so feet away from them (THEY COULD SEE ME NOT SINGING ALONG! ). I made extra effort to give it loads to the songs I did know, so it worked out, me thinks :P For those of you uninformed about the band. I recommend this song for starters. Try it!

Funny Stuff

So this band called STYROFOAM played beforehand. And the keyboardist was great - I immediately fancied her. The band is kind of techno/indie, so she was dancing along quite a bit and I couldn't keep my eyes off of her. The band said they'd be around after the show. I made a mental note. So when everything was over my friends and I were at the merch-stand and then I see her. So do my friends :x And they're like "go to talk to her" and I'm like  "I don't think so." They prod for five minutes and while I wasn't paying attention decided to actually push me DIRECTLY towards her. I stumble and literally land right in front of her. She's startled. I'm embarrassed. After the awkward pause that ensued, I start saying how much I liked her music and asked where she'd be playing next and if the band were doing anything afterwards 8) Her English wasn't that good, but we were chatting for a bit. But since we were in a certain part of the hall the bouncers were throwing us out and her manager…ahem…managed to grab her while I was swept along the "get the **** out" line :P Still, I managed to at least chat to her ^^

One of my Fav Jimmy Songs

Well, that's it, I suppose. I really urge you to give Jimmy a try. Here's a very sad song to go out on, but one I love all the same.

Ouchie!

If any customer today comes in and even tries to moan at me...I will keeeel them. :x

I went to bed at 4, had to get up at 7 :x

Beer Bad. Beer very bad.

Family Reunion (Ramblings of a drunken irishman)

Hey folks :D S

orry if I happened to leave a few incoherent comments on a few recent blogs…what can I say? I'm Irish

Most of the night consisted of me saying "Oh....hey...you...." (Crap, who the hell is that again?)

Had a family reunion of soerts tonight. My nanna was 80, ya see and so there was this hue family gathering. It was a lot of fun. At first I stuck to my cousins that were in and around my age. My cousin and one of my good friends Lisa was there and we had a blast as usual. Laughing about the most inappropriate things.

As the night went on, the kids had to leave (including Lisa who will be 18 in 2 months) - yes, a gentle reminder you only have to be 18 to legally drink over here. To be honest, I was a little left out after that. My other cuz was 21, and he was a bit of laugh. But after him the age difference varied quite a bit. There were so many people there that I had no clue who half of them were. At one point my dad was at the bar talking to someone and he introduces me to this guy. I, a bit tipsy go "Heh, and I'm his son!". Then the chap relies "And I'm your cousin" And I'm like… oh… :| "awkward!"…

By the end of the night it was myself, my dad and 2 cousins walking home. All, of course, ervy drunk. Talking about our ex's…and yes, my dad included which wa s abit surreal… hahaha!

The oddest thing of it all is how I tedn to act arounsd family functions. Several people went as far as to comment on how im the angelic, quiet one of the family. Yet, if thery were to ever see me at an actual party…well… lets just say, I'm not so much a mr. innocent guy

Oh and funny thing. My cousin that ceom from America asked me "Are you still into Buffy?" (I hadn't seen her in 5 years). And I was like… "Buffy?… hehe, god no!" It's crazy how we tend to hide the geek in us sometimes :P

Bored of the Rings...

Apologies for those of you unfortunate enough to have caught my previous blog. Less of a blog, more of a rant. A blant? A Rog? Who knows… ba-humbug!

Tv.com news :D

France shall be henceforth known as Fin.

Lin is also…henceforth…known as Fin.

Neither would settle for Lance, so I'm christening JD with that name now :P

The One Ring…

Bought the LOTR trilogy for just under €20 the other day. Hadn't seen the last instalment and vaguely recalled the other two, so I just went with it. The weakest for me was The Return of the King - it had some nice battles and such, but I found myself fast forwarding through the annoyingly repetitive speeches about honour. I really felt the 3 hour running time with that one. The ending, too, was so pants. I wanted Frodo and, maybe, Sam to die. It seemed right. Next, is The Two Towers. Slow at times, but unlike the final instalment, actually rewards you come the end. The characters fell secondary to the grand arc here, which caused it to slow, and those annoying speeches began to crop up. The Fellowship of the Ring was a joy to sit through. Fast-paced, tremendous visuals, fully realised characters, superb acting and some astonishing action scenes. Easily the best of the three, and epic in ever sense of the word. Still have three discs unwatched, if I include the special features. Quite a bargain.

TV

Haven't been really with the viewage this past week. I took a look at the new T:SCC episode, and it was ultimately a cool glimpse into the future, if a bit under explored. The show keeps getting better, I think. So, naturally, Fox aren't sure whether to renew it or not *grr!*

DVDs

Geesh - I've been buying so many lately. It's not like I have time to watch them or anything…But I'm starting to build my collection. Tonight I bought Seven, Fight Club, Blade and A Clock-Work Orange. I've been looking up DVDs to buy on Play.com all night. I'm thinking of buying the complete special edition full series of Xena, it's only 130 euro. Not bad at all.

Mothers Day

It's fast approaching, and since I have a job and all that now, I've decided I might as well do something nice…considering I've either gotten her a simple card or else just actually forgotten altogether in the past. So, I'm gonna book one of those spa-thingies for my mom.Heh.

I had other things to say, but I'm kind of beat.

Hope all is well

Run, Fat Mark, Run!

If you must know, the blog title is an allusion to "Run, Fat boy, Run" - a bloody hilarious film. I watched it in work today cause I had the shop to myself for around 2 hours, and while I was doing bits&bobs, I had it on. It is very "Spaced" without ever feeling like some cheap knock-off. Yes, Simon is practically Tim, and there's some of that trademark whooshing camera work and some hilarious appropriately inappropriate swearing, but it carries itself well enough and stands on its own wit for the most part - but comparisons to the show are practically impossible not to make.

I really enjoyed the film cause Simon Peg's character, in many ways, reminded me of me…at least from an athletic point of view and leaving things undone. There's a bit where he's running and some upbeat music accompanies him as he begins to quicken, only seconds later to run out of breath and go home! That was literally me on my first run

Speaking of work, a woman came into the shop today and had obviously never rented anything before. She was asking if it was alright to rent without a card and that she'd be using her fathers account - both fine, as long as she could give the address and appropriate name. So, off she pops and gets the DVDs and I'd say she was close to her 30s, and not all there, bless her. Anyways, just as she is about to leave…and I had never seen her before…she says "Thanks, Mark" and walks out :| I don't wear a name tag and was in the shop by myself so nobody called me or anything. How the frak did she know my name?… spooky.

The low point of my day? I had to clean the lavatory :x Not exactly a day at the spa, I tell ya that much.

Tonight I'm just gonna watch Old Boy, a few episodes of Buffy, search for the quiz and then sleep. I have a day off 2moro, and I gotta go down to the Garda Station.

On Friday I have the see "The Accidental Husband"… it'll either be crap. Or else really crap. :P

Later, all.

A Browncoat? More like a Turncoat!!

Heya folks -- I'm still bunged up. I think I'm getting a flu. I cant afford to take more days off of work, so Im taking it easy and hopefully I'll be fine by Sunday.

Quiz

I just opened Lin's new questions there a while back and there are a couple of familiar faces, but mostly I just drew blanks. I actually enjoy the picture searches, it's a great feeling when you do discover the name to the face. It's another tough one.

Torchwood

I've reviewed "Adam" and thought it pretty much sucked. However, I just watched "Reset" and bloody loved it! Seriously, it was a really great episode! :D

Turncoat

After a few blogs talking about buying a PS3, and being the Sony man that I am, it came as a shock as I found myself handing over 400 (well, 350, I got a discount at work) for an XB360! I'm loving it. I got four free games with it - "Gears of War," which is phucking amazing! And "Ninety Nine Nights" which is pretty good (especially as u can add yer own soundtracks to the games and I keep using the Buffy last fight theme and it's masterful). The other two - "Crashdown" and "Blue Dragon" are not so great, so Im gonna trade them in for Halo 2 :D

Buffy Season Five

I've finished rewatching it and so here are my top 5 episodes.

5
Checkpoint

A bit of an odd choice, but for some reason I really enjoy this episode. I always liked episodes when someone official comes to town and makes the work Buffy and Giles do seem inadequate, like the Gwendolyn Post episode.

4
Intervention

Both funny and touching - while I tend to dislike anything Spike/Buffy related in the emotional sense, I loved when she pretends to be the Buffybot and his reaction. Great moment.

3
Tough Love

A very serious episode with a hella cool ending. Willow's attack on Glory was ****c and the ending was just nail-bitingly good!

2

Fool For Love

Tonnes of brilliant action coupled with a truly kick-ass back-story to spike. I really loved how his past intersected with the present with Buffy, and her line about how he's beneath her. Nice.

1

The Body/ The Gift

I love both episodes. I loved how everything just worked for "The Body" and the lack of music was just so unnerving. With "The Gift" I fell in love with score and I'll never forget that feeling when Buffy died on TV. I was so…numb.

Whats yer fav season five eppy?

Hope all is well

Take that risk and....JUMP!

I'm really sorry for my lack of activity around here lately - haven't been feeling the best, actually. Had to take the day off today from work cos my stomach was in horrible shape yesterday. I'll try and get to your blogs tonight :D

I recently went to the screening of "Jumper" and have to say I liked it more than I thought I would. Oddly enough, as I left the cinema, I managed to sum up the film and jot down the ending to my review, which I haven't written yet - talk about backwards! To keep it nice and brief, here is what I thought -- " 'Jumper' is a conceptually inventive and visually slick film, poorly executed. For all of the film's downfalls, it's a hell of a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it's a couple of jumps short of becoming a true sci-fi hit."

The other day in work I got hit on in a major way. So much so, I actually thought she was pulling my leg. These very nice looking ladies came into the shop. One of them asked if I had some innuendo-esq title, I forget it, obviously, and her friend added, "don't worry, im not personally asking you under the sheets". I laughed and she just gave me this huge smile. Her friends laughed, so I shrugged it off. When I was in the vault looking for the DVD I hear her say "he's so bloody cute!" and so I was like, er, oh crap, im starting to blush a little, I cant go outside! I eventually do and she's smiling at me again while her friends were getting popcorn. I have to say, this like NEVER happens, so I was a nervous idiot and didn't really say anything other than generic work related things. As they all left she strolled behind her friends and waved goodbye, smiles and all. I hope to frak she comes in again ^^

Speaking of hawt women, I'd like to take a chance to inform everyone of my new lurver :P She's seriously kick-arse and writes these really cool film-reviews! She recently got into Firefly and is reviewing it now! I love her writing st/yle. My profile is private and I rarely add or accept new folk, but she's a keeper! :D View her profile Here!

Hope all is well

NEW BUFFY FILM!!!!....Nah, but the poster looks cool! Buffy stuff inside!

Red Alert!!

- Sarah Michelle Gellar will be attending the Buffy Reunion!!!

- Summer Glau to Star in new Joss Whedon film!!!

Life

Sigh -- I've been in one of those blah moods for the past month. I'm actually doing good - socially, mentally and financially - but I haven't gone to the gym in ages, my appetite isn't exactly stellar at the moment, and I keep breaking commitments, whether it be the aforementioned gym or something like a new music video. I've had many shows I've been wanting to review but don't seem to be bothered, I have the time alright, but nowhere near enough energy.

I rented a few films there and the ones I have watched were absolutely atrocious. Here are a few quick 2-3 sentence reviews.

Toolbox Murders

Drusilla is in this film!…please, don't do what I did and hope the Buffy link will somehow transform the film from trite to…well, anything else but. Total crap. The cover looked really cool and promising. I could fart out a better horror film.

Ghost Rider

What a waste of life. If you watch this film, you're wasting life. F@ct. I switched it off after 50 minutes. I've lost 50 minutes. Sigh.

Straightheads

You get to see Gillian Anders' nipplets in this!…that's about it, really. Conceptually cool, but poorly executed. Not to mention the so slim it's virtually non-existent running time that makes for skimpy plot and character. Still, if you'd like to see someone get raped with a rifle…by all means :D

Quiz Watch - It's like Crime Watch only…not

Well, round 3 will certainly separate the men from the boys…or, hopefully, Auntie from the first position  Whatever the case, I'm actually doing decent in this round. The picture questions are not that difficult - although I did freak out when I first opened the PM. In the second set of pictures I only have one that's virtually impossible for me to name. And in the art section I only have one that I have no clue about either. Ah well. Damn you, Lin!

What I'm watching and re-watching

Terminatro: SCC

I'm liking this show a lot. I'm liking Summer Glau's boobies…I mean, er, her action scenes and character. In fact, it really has been solid so far…the show I mean, you dirty minded folk!

Torchwood

Reviews are online. It's the only show Im gonna definitely review every week. Take a gander if want :D

Lost

Once you go Lost, you never…ok…that doesn't work. Point of the matter is the new episode freakin' rawked. It was really, really cool. I'm a Lost-y again :D Some nice imagery and solid acting, too. A friend of mine hated Hurley's breakdown speech to Claire (who is lookin' mighty fine!) and I can see why. Still. I was thrilled the hour wasn't focused on Jack.

Buffy

^^^ Watch out, someone might unlease hell on us:roll:

This show never ceases to woo me over all over again. Love it! Season five is a very good, if somewhat depressing season of the series.

I'm still working on the film blog

Hope all is well :D

Cloverfield! WHOA! AMAZING! *No Spoilers*

Ok, just a quick blog. Not a real one. Just a quick one.

I just got back from seeing Cloverfield.

My word, it was phucking AWESOME!

I loved every bit of it. From the beginning with the hot heaps of yummy folk at the party to the ________________________________________________:wink: as if I'd ruin the experience.

It has been quite a while since I've left the cinema with such an unsettling feeling hovering around me. It's not the best film EVAH, but it gets the job done in such a phenomenal way. Visually it is beyond impressive. It's an aesthetic orgasm! It jerks you around until the tension builds and builds, getting bigger and bigger, until it unleashes the money shot in gloriously epic fashion.

As a side note: the Batman trailer aired before it and I got an uneasy chill seeing the Joker onscreen. I can only imagine what the actual film will be like.

My full Cloverfield review will be up on my next blog. Needless to say, I'm giving it full marks.

Torchwood, quiz stuff, and Angel (You knew it was coming!) - OH MY!

Heya folks, just a quick update. Well, this may turn into a big blog, I haven't decided… work has been hectic in the sense I've been doing it non-stop…still it = $$$$…or more appropriately €€€€!

Lin Watch - Quiz of the Sheep

No, I'm not stalking the naughty sheep (Or Am I? ); it's simply a few thoughts on the quiz every now and then and how evil the host is :P.

I was glad to see I came a respectable 5th place last week. This week is tough in the sense a lot of people, or so we're told, have gotten full marks. Bugger. I gave my answers to Lin (she's learning quickly that I leave everything until the last minute  ) and am sure I got 9/10. One question I had no clue about. This may just push me outside the top five mark already. Not to worry, though. With round three I'll catch up and round four (FIREFLY! CHARISMA!) I'll surely gain some ground :D

Angel - After the Fall #3

After two very mediocre episodes (ha, I mean issues) this one kicks it up a notch and then some! Loved the character interaction, the quotable dialogue and that frakking jaw-dropping ending. White texted spoilers up ahead: so that means that Angel somehow managed to deliver with the shanshu prophecy, which leads me to believe that it was always an evil prophecy - maybe angel didn't have to save the world in order to get his humanity back, but gradually destroy it? Hmmm! How cool is Illyria, eh? I could hear Acker mouthing the words with ever letter I read! 5/5 from me with this one!

TV- Bloody Torchwood!

The only [current] show I'm watching is Torchwood. I have two reviews up for the premiere and "Sleeper". There's a noticeable decline in quality already in the second episode, but the previews for the next one looked promising. I'll be watching and reviewing "To The Last Man" tonight :D

Next Blog

Movie insanity! Finally ending my top 50, soooo many dvd reviews, cinema reviews and movie info, trailers, the works! :)
