I thought it's about time I write blog. If you've played Reach, you'll figure out tfihe blog title. I finished Reach on Legendary a couple of minutes ago. It was my first playthrough. And my opinions? The best Halo campaign ever! I've played Halo 2, Halo 3 and ODST but let me tell you, Reach's campaign beats all.
Reach Mini-Review
One of the coolest thing was that you don't play as a pre-determined Spartan. You will play as your own Spartan named Noble 6, a member of the Noble Team. It isn't much but still a nice touch. The top reasons why I find Reach's campaign the best is the outstanding level design, great pacing and a terrific story backed up epic Halo music and incredible audio visual design.
Not a single campaign mission is boring thanks to their excellent design. You'll play through lots of different locations in Reach planet and some unexpected ones too. The story this time is more focused on the members of Noble Team and how they are handling the risk of falling Reach into Covenant's hands. While most of you know the what will happen eventually but Bungie did a great job in not making it too predictable when you are advancing through the game. What really helps you care about the Noble Team is their distinctive personalities backed by great voice acting. I have to admit though that some team members were on screen more than others (Jun and Emile want some love man! :P ). Halo's well crafted music come back in this one and even more epic while still carrying the Halo sound. It really compliments the story and what goes around in Reach.
While Reach still manages to be a pretty game but I have to admit that they aren't a major improvements over Halo 3. That doesn't stop Reach from being eye catching and most of the praise goes to the creative art design. There were times that the engine couldn't keep up with the action especially when things get really really really(That kid's Halo 3 review reference. Anyone?) intense.
What would all this be without tight controls and fluid gameplay? While not straying away from core Halo mechanics, Reach's gameplay is fun and addictive without feeling repetitive. It takes the great elements from each Halo game and combines it to create controls that will please both Halo purists and new comers alike. The gadgets from Halo 3 were replaced with an all new Armor Abilities. These abilities can really spice things up with cool stuff like Jet Pack, Armor Lock, Hologram and some other great stuff. One thing I'm disappointed about is the removal of dual-wield. I don't know why they did that but I miss my SMGs :( .
So Reach's campaign has it all. Probably one of the best campaigns I've ever played in a shooter. I didn't play multiplayer or firefight extensively, but when I do I'll write a full Reach review.
More Halo...
My first memories of Halo go back to the days of Halo 2. I was a 11 year old kid back then. You probably thinking "Oh no! this dude was one of those annoying teens!" but no I wasn't. I bought it with XBOX right after my PS2 died on me (Forever in my heart. Best console ever!). I didn't play online back then mainly because I didn't have a good internet. I just played the campaign with my brother or we'd hit custom games to kill some time and each other :D. I don't know why everyone hated playing as Arbiter but I found really fun and different, or maybe I was just a blind fanboy back then. Take your pick lol :D. Halo 2 will always have a special place in my heart, a place that Halo 3 or Reach can't take.
Then cliffhanger ending didn't satisfy me though. I was like "What?! Is that it?!". Which was the main reason why I was screaming around the house when Halo 3 was announced (okay, it wasn't like that but I was super excited). Then at the end of the school year I bough myself a XBOX 360 with Gears of War. Which I was hooked to right away. When Halo 3 came out, me and my bro rushed to buy it. Then we finished it on Legendary co-op. The good thing about Halo is that it always plays good with others. Also, Halo 3 was the first game I've ever played online multiplayer on.
I can't say ODST was memorable as the rest of the games but it was sweet and short. It just didn't feel like a full game to me. More like an expansion to Halo 3 with some experimental gameplay but that doesn't mean it wasn't good. It was great but nothing special. The dropping sequence was the best thing in the whole campaign which is also the very first lol :D.
Now back to Reach. I read in a weekly update on Bungie.net that the "A Monument To All Your Sins" achievement is the rarest among Halo Reach online-aware community. The statics showed that only 5% of them unlocked it. So here I am saying proudly: I'm one of the elites 8). Another difficult achievement I unlocked in Reach was "If They Came To Hear Me Beg" which wasn't that hard to be honest. Once you get the hang of it, you can do it a lot of times without any trouble.
Now that I'm finished with Reach and since I'm not getting a gold sub for another couple of days, I'm going to pick up Enslaved and Medal of Honor soon. This concludes my very first blog on gamespot. Thanks for reading and have a good day :).
