18 years on Gamespot.

Wow, I've never been on anything for 18 years before. Not even 10 years, though YouTube is probably getting close to that. But gaming has been my passion since the PSX came out, then I moved to PC FPS in 2000 with Unreal Tournament. When the PS3 came out I had been waiting on that a long time and with that came Oblivion and at least 1000 hours spent playing it a few times, then someone told me about Fallout 3 saying it was like Oblivion with guns. SIGN ME UP!! Another 1000 hours on that and at least 400 or more on New Vegas, then the best of the lot, Skyrim and another 1000 hours beating the story on both sides. I actually saw it on Xbox Game Pass for PC and started playing it again. I bought a nice gaming laptop last year, 10th Gen i7 10870, 32 GB ram, Nvidea RTX3070 with 8 GB Vram, it runs most everything well over 100 fps and with the 300Hz monitor it shows too. Gotta love PC graphics though I do miss the ease of just sticking a game in a console and playing. But no way am I paying stupid prices for a PS5 though I am seriously considering a Steam Deck, since I have a LOT of games on there. Let's see what changes when I've been here 20 years. I'll check back with myself then. lol

Almost Christmas 2015, WOW!! Edit : Almost Christmas 2021. LOL

Once again years have gone by since I've wrote anything. I bought my son a PS4 way back when but I never got one for myself. I ended up waiting for a PS5 but scammers are buying them up and selling them almost double what they cost, I just spent $1900 on a good gaming laptop instead. I forgot how much better KB and mouse were for shooters, makes them super easy. I don't have a dvd so I just added a 2TB external HDD to add to my 1TB SSD. I like not having to worry about DVDs, just download the game and have it there. I have Xbox live and downloaded the 174 GB Halo Master version or w/e it's called. Crapload of gaming in that.

Almost 2 years have passed since my last entry, still nothing new. But I have saved almost enough to get a ps4, I wasn't going to get one until they were like $199 but my son mentioned an interest in getting one and playing Fallout 4. I loved Fallout 3 and even though New Vegas is pretty much the silliest RPG I've played I still like most things about it. I did like it having more ways to play out the ending, generally speaking, I didn't much like Yes Man turning around from being my lackey to me being his. That's why I'm skeptical about Fallout 4, but I'd like to get a system where my son and I could play something together and Gran Turismo is gonna be PS4 only and I've always been a fan of that game, despite the last 2 not being very good. I just love racing and hate totally unrealistic car games like Motor Storm, ok it has some fun tracks but overall everything generally has the same top speed, just different acceleration, I mean come on, a dump truck AND a 4 wheeler keeping up with what looks like a hemi charger? And motocross bikes? You don't get to have acceleration AND top speed with them. There were a lot of unrealistic things in Gran Turismo 6 also. I kid you not, I bought a little 4 cylinder front wheel drive Alfa Romeo hatchback, no modifications what so ever, well an oil change gave me about 15 extra hp, but I was charging hard into a corner, hit the brakes hard and I rolled it, not sideways but over the front bumper going totally straight. Now those tiny little cheap tires don't offer enough traction to come close to lifting the back tires, much less putting them over the front tires. And all mid engine cars, except McLarens, oversteered like crazy. You could add 250hp to a '69 Camaro and have it handle fine but a stock Ferrari 458 Italia or a Lambo Murcielago sliding sideways with even close to half throttle? That's the reason they make them mid engine, to put the weight over the back tires to prevent this from happening. Not saying they wouldn't ever do it but they make it seem like they're totally uncontrollable. Even a sub 200 hp Lotus Elise does this, while a 600 hp McLaren doesn't. And many of the cars seem to be 3d renditions of die cast toy cars, I heard one Forum user say he flipped a car and it had 4 huge phillips screws on the bottom. hahaha And why is there over 20 kinds of Mazda Miatas? They would put 3 of the same year, identical engine, chassis and body just different names, depending if they were sold in Japan, USA or UK. They're still identical in every single way. They put 2 identical Viper racers just with different bodies. They also had a dozen similar RX-7s, Minis, 3000GTs, and other cars while leaving out some good US front wheel drive cars such as the 80's Shelby Charger Turbo, the Dodge Daytona even had a Turbo, Shelby and IROC versions, even the base Charger 2.2 was left out and it was one of the best sport front wheel drive cars made in the 80's.. Yet they put in 1972 Celicas, 1942 VW amphibious war oriented car, and other silly examples no one wants to race. Even the beetle only had 1 of the original rear engine models, like a 1948 1200. Ridiculous.

Why is it most good games are followed up by sequels that totally ruin the good thing they had going? CoD Black Ops was great, Black ops 2 was short and generally just catered to only people who wanted to play zombies. Make that a different game if it's that popular, Don't dis the fans of the CoD franchise. *Sigh* I'm waiting until Black ops 3 gets cheap before I buy it I hate paying $40 or $50 for a game and end up beating it in a night or 2 That's why I loved Oblivion and Skyrim. If you divide the cost per hour you played then Bethesda games would be the cheapest games on the market. Oblivion would have cost me about 5c an hour at the most, and I've even gone back to play that again here lately. I bought the Skyrim Legendary Edition or something with the 2 expansion packs included. Got it for about $30 and have somewhere near 1000 hours on there, and will put another 500 or more in the near future because playing Oblivion again has shown me despite already playing it 3 times 500+ hours each time I still missed things. So here's to hoping Fallout 4 and Gran Turismo 7 are good games, the PS4 is worth the investment and hopefully another edition of Elder Scrolls won't be too far away, I heard the next one is going to take place in the Black Marsh, I don't know how I feel about that but so far TES has been sheer joy to play for the last 2 chapters More than I can say for any other franchise I like. Ok this turned out to be more of a rant than a blog, but I really have been disappointed in the way most games have been going lately.

Newest happenings.

I guess 4 years is my norm for updating my blog, I can't believe I've had this Gateway laptop for 4 years already, odd, it still runs everything out at the highest settings. I guess it pays to buy the best hardware at the time that you can afford, I did it with the assumption I wouldn't have to upgrade for that much longer and I was obviously right. I bought a 1.86 ghz laptop for my niece going off to college over a year ago for $239, it was refurbished but with a 90 day warranty, it's been my experience that usually if something is going to go wrong with electronics it's gonna happen pretty soon. As with my Gateway within I think it was about a month after I bought it, new, not refurbished or used, the mobo and cam went out. I don't know if the cam shorted the mobo or the mobo knocked the cam out but either way I sent it back to the factory and they replaced everything and shipped it back no charge, they had even mailed me a shipping label so I didn't have to pay to send it to them. But it proved my point, at least to myself if no one else about electronics that are going to fail do it fast, barring aged use of course. The replaced mobo and cam haave been doing fine for well over 3 years now. I just bought 8 oldish ps3 games for $102 with free shipping, skyrim being the newest, black ops 1 being the oldest I cared about. God of war 1 was on it but paired with GoW2 on the same disc. I never cared for that game so I'll be reselling that and the GoW 3 as a package deal. I might try out GoW3 just to see if it's any better than 1. Believe it or not that's about all that's new in 4 years. Sucks to be me.

Long time away

Wow, my last blog was in `06? lol Well I go through so many medical issues its easy to forget what I was doing before whatever happened to take me away is over, at the moment Ive been stuck in a nursing home who just got Wifi a couple weeks ago, very poor signal, about 50% on a good day and a ridiculous speed for a public connection, 1.5 meg adsl. I bought a new laptop, my last laptop was state of the art Hitachi Pentium 133. lol I loved my desktops for upgrades, the one sitting at home now was a kit I bought, AMD 2.2 ghz quadcore, 3 gigs 666mhz ram and ATI 2400 pro 256meg, 500 gigs and stuck my 250gig from my previous computer in it so I didnt have to transfer all my junk. This laptop seems to easily wizz by it,Gateway 17"Intel Duocore P8700 2.56ghz, 4 gigs 1066mhz DDR3, no shared video mem on this baby NvideaGeForceGTX 260M with its own gig of blazing ram, Ive never considered buying a Gateway before but for the price seemed totally worth it, 500 gig hdd and dvd-rw, i decided against paying extra for a bluray burner since I rarely burn anything for myself. As I have been spending the majority of my gaming time on the PS3 since it came out I lost interest in computers, I rented a 360 and went to a friends house that had a ps3 and played them both all night and hands down chose the PS3. At the time there was only about 20 titles for it but I knew that would soon be rectified, and I was right, plus the online store PS Home is fun to chat and play free games, totally happier with the ps3. As a FPS fan Ive been disappointed in most everything that came after the original Unreal Tournament way back in 1999, at the moment Im actually playing and paying for a WoW account. Its something to do that doesnt require a great internet connection, the crappy Wifi connection pretty much keeps me from playing the ps3 as much as Id like, It wont stay connected to home, especially bad during the day. Im trying to talk them into letting me have my own personal line that Id pay for but theyre so stupid they dont understand anything about computers. When they lose internet access and need a reboot they have to call freeking AT&T to come do it for them. God, I hate stupid people. So anyway thats my life nowadays, sucks for me but Ill never take my home connection for granted again lol.

Update

Ok, Ive had this alienware for some time now, It arrived overclocked with the BIOS screwed ip bad, some kid must have tried to make it super fast and ended up making it barely run games. I reset the BIOS and tweaks a couple things but left the cpu speed stock and no voltage increases. I did however go ahead and buy 2x1gig sticks of OCZ Platinum ram. I bought them with the intention of overclocking this system myself to see what it can do, I already know it can get 2.47ghz out of the cpu without any noticeable increase in heat. The alienice cooling system keeps it at about 32C idle and about 38C at full load after 45 minutes. The ram has a lifetime guarentee even if i was to fry it doing something dumb. But after sticking the ram in (all 3 gigs at 1st 2x1gig and 2x512meg) I decided later that 2 gigs in dual channel 400mhz is better than 3 gigs in single channel and 333mhz. I havent tested it to see the actual difference, but i can tell it just on bootup alone. I downloaded Americas Army, 897 megs. It was unzipped and installed in 94 seconds!!! Maybe its the dualcores, I hear people say if it isnt designed for dualcores then it doesnt make a difference. That is total bs, Unreal tournament released in 1999 (Well before dualcore processors were out) Runs a ton better, however I have to hit ctrl Alt delete and stop the process a SECOND time after I close it normally. I can only assume this has something to do with using both cores. But just for the sake of argument I installed AA using an AMD 2500+ 1.86ghz overclocked to 3200+ @ 2.204ghz 1 gig ram , my 4400+ also being 2.211ghz and having only 1 gig installed at the time... it inzipped and installed it in roughly 3.25 minutes. So much for unzipping not being supported by dualcores lol.   The moral of this story I guess is internet chat computer know it alls DONT know it all. In fact they usually just make up what they dont know and use what they do know to try and force you to believe it. Ive found it best to do your own research and just let them go on feeding their cyber egos.
Next project I have my eye on a pair of matched geforce 7800 GTS cards to run in SLI.

Yayyy

I finally did it, I finally bought an alienware an hour or so ago, I opted to get a used one from ebay (my answer to everything is Ebay, Im homebound and cant get out to stores) Alienwares in good condition arent easy to find on ebay, apparently people hang on to them lol. But I finally snuck a last bid in a few seconds before it ended and beat my rivals with a brilliant move of putting my max bid a few hundred over the going price instead of bidding $25 a time like the other guys. I ended up with a 6 month old Aurora with an AMD 4400+ dualcore @ 2.2ghz, best Asus sli deluxe mobo, a mere gig of ram is in it but Im looking for 2x1024 meg upgrade kits now, brand new Corsair is $159 + shipping.... hunting for Kingston now lol It only has a geforce 6800 in it but im gonna get a 2nd one and add it to try that SLI junk out. I bet its gonna scream. I also got an Acer 19" LCD flat panel thats .264 dp and a mere 4ms refresh, for sound I like a simple 3 piece setup, Logitech Z-2300`s with 200watts Should be good enough as Im using old old Altec Lansing ADA-305`s that still sound awesome, fiance is getting this frankensteing rig.
Its a amd 2500+ on a MSI mobo that rox, easy overclocking. Can go from 1.86 to 2.204 ghz with 2 or 3 mouse clicks in BIOS. Im gonna upgrade it later for her to a AMD 3200+ and a radeon x800 AGP in place of the aging but still rocking 9500 pro. I got a gig of 400mhz ram in here same as the alienware 4400+ as they dont let you use DDR2 in the dualcore ready amd mobo`s. its ddr3200 or less, sucks. But oh well I got it anyway I hear the ram speed isnt noticeable when comparing the AMD dualcore to the intel equivelent. Still and all after getting all the stuff I wanted I only spent aa bit over $2200 or so. Not bad for a rocking Alienware dualcore AMD.
I cant wait to get back into a good FPS like UT was. I am still playing that but need a new one to compete online. yea kick butt time. hehe
