Most old people seem to be like that. They're just in denial and deep down they know that religion is BS.deathwish124

yeah

it takes a strong will to remain ignorant for that long

for most religious people though - its programmed in them so early that it just gets locked off

and the recognition that maybe they were in control of their own world would just shake them to the core, almost a survival instinct to remain that way

in the end it doesnt make a difference anyway, if the belief in god helped you through life - than in my mind it served its purpose

we will never be able to disprove god as atheists

we could explain every single aspect of the known universe, and be able to replicate it ourselves - but people will always be able to chalk it up to spacegod, quite insulting

I think its a good thing when people accept that there could more out there and that maybe we actually don't know everything. We have religions and we have scientific theories, thats fine, and I think it is great that we are discovering so much through science, but when people claim to have the definitive answer, there is really no way that they actually do.

Panzeram

Answer to what?

Scientific theory merely describes observances, it does not answer any invisible questions.

Yes, but if there are actually things we cannot observe or explain, such as the supernatural, then these invisible questions still exist without answers. And by answer I was referring to the big questions of creation and how we got here, science explains it with the Big Bang, religion will describe it is the work of a greater power. Do you know for a fact it was the Big Bang, no you do not, no one does and the same goes for a higher power.

lol we will if that large hadron collider ever gets finished

so because you can't disprove religion it means you have to be religious?

why is a-theist (meaning non-religious) stupid?

atheism isnt an answer its the awareness that we don't have an answer

Gallion-Beast

If you were referring to me, Atheism is not the only non-religious group, it is just the most ignorant one. If you are Theist you 100% believe in a greater power, Atheist believes 0%. My point is you can't prove that either one is right or wrong so they are equally ignorant. And Agnostic is the awareness that we don't have an answer, Atheism is a complete rejection of certain possibilities.

However most people who think along the lines of "I don't know that the universe wasn't created by a higher force but I reject modern religions due to lack of evidence/reason" identify as atheists as Agnosticism usually implies much more willingness to accept supernatural possibilities that have no evidence behind them. Though according to wiki "Atheism can be either the rejection of theism,[1] or the assertion that deities do not exist.[2] In the broadest sense, it is the absence of belief in the existence of deities.[3]" where "Theism in the broadest sense is the belief in at least one deity". Which would mean anyone who doesn't believe in a god, not just anyone who absolutely rejects the possibility of a god.

yes, i think of atheism as more "anti-theist" than "anti-higher power"

theism means religion not god

i am against religion - i don't know if that classes me as atheist or agnostic
