@MigGui: Motion blur and interpolation make viewing low frame rate video fine on TV. Real time graphics rendering is not the same as traditional video. Low frame rate for games is the worst.
@BassMan: yeah, the critically acclaimed and hugely successful spiderverse movies are “off-putting”. Also, you’re not complaining about lack of frame rates in gaming, you’re complaining about lack of frame rates in cutscenes. Guess videogames destroyed movies for you? At least it seems the cutscenes still can be saved, according to TTDog
I am good if the cut-scenes are rendered in real time and you can turn off the 'artistic stutter' in both the cut-scenes and gameplay. Forcing that shit on me is a big no-no. I think the game looks great otherwise.
@MigGui: It's not just gaming. This shit was present in the Spider-verse movies. Animation lacking fluidity is off putting regardless of medium. Anyway, frame rate is extremely important in gaming. High frame rates offer fluidity, lower input lag, and better image clarity while in motion.
Here is an idea. What if they actually had the balls to make the whole game stop-motion like animation instead of giving in to an audience that cannot appreciate artistic choices? Not everything needs to be hyper realistic and 120fps for crying out loud.
Sure, you can call it an artistic choice, but it is a bad choice that I do not appreciate. The devs need to make better choices.
@illegal_peanut: More of all that, but less frames in the animation. LOL
I hate that this has become a recent trend. I don't play games at high frame rate to have the immersion broken by choppy animations. I want smooth animations damn it!
@BassMan: That’s fine-enjoy your wait and just pray it has a good port!!!
I have a regular PS5 as well. So, if I really wanted to play a Sony game at launch, I could play it on that. However, since I care about quality, I just wait for the PC versions now. I could buy a PS5 Pro, but I know the games will not be as good as on my PC. So, again, I just wait for it to come to PC. The PS5 Pro offers nothing for me.
It's basically for people who don't want to be dealing with a blur fest when choosing performance mode. Games that are pushing the PS5 hardware render at a very low base resolution. FSR has poor image clarity and image stability after reconstruction/upscaling. Replacing FSR with PSSR and using the extra GPU power for a higher base resolution will improve this situation. It is not going to turn the console into a high end PC, but it will make things more bearable. Console gamers will finally start to appreciate what modern game engines like UE5 can offer.
It is a decent upgrade for consoles, but it is not cheap. When you factor in the cost of the console, disc drive, PS+ subscriptions over a few years, etc., you might as well build yourself a gaming PC if you are open to making the switch. You will get better quality and access to the biggest library of games including the MS and Sony first party games.
Microtransactions, season passes, and all the other live service garbage has ruined gaming. When games are designed around monetization instead of being good, it all goes to shit. We need more games that are pure in design and not so much of this corrupted live service, political agenda garbage that we see today.
