Moving away from console gaming to PC in a year so strong for consoles. Why?

I was born in 1991

So ill start off by saying that my first ever gaming system was a Play-station One. I loved it, i really did. I played games like Spyro The Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, Tekken etc.. All the classics! We also had a family computer, my Dad loved to play Frogger, Snake and similar games, i played these too but i preferred my PS-one. As technology progressed, we got newer computers, but my parents didn't buy PCs for gaming, i ended up playing Age Of Empires and Rise of Nations, i loved those games! Eventually i played Far Cry and i truly thought this game was incredible! The graphics were amazing (back then) my computer really struggled to play it because as i mentioned before we had PCs built for family use, not gaming.

When Birthdays and Christmas's came by i was given a PS2 and games, i thought that too was amazing! Such improved graphics! Whilst i was enjoying my PS2 very much i thought id pick up a sequel to one game everyone will know, an iconic series, Half-life 2 (i played Half-life 1). Half-life 2 did not run on my PC, it ran for about 5 minutes then crashed, i was truly davastated, i asked my parents if i could try to upgrade my PC, they would have none of it, they said i'd break it and we couldn't afford to buy a whole new computer. I wish they understood. I ended up asking for an xbox 360, i am going to fast forward here.. I went through 2 or 3 Xbox's, some broke, some i sold and bought back, i also ended up buying my self a Wii and PS3, i was and still am a true gamer. Whilst all this was going on i was still very interested in PC gaming but i did not have a steady job so i didn't even thinking about saving up for my very own computer, until recently in this year 2013.

Funnily enough i made my mind up after watching E3, after the Xbox One and PS4 were announced. I admit i considered buying a computer before, but after E3 i was certain i wanted one, i looked into how much a decent rig would cost me.. just into quadruple figures (ouch!) but this is okay i can save up now i have a job. (I went to college, finished, then started working, i still don't know what i want to do as a career)

So anyway you want to know why i chose to start PC gaming? To be honest i am not impressed by these new consoles, yeah they've improved from current gen but in my opinion, not by much, i do not care for fancy features and over-the-top social options, i want privacy! Yes you can change settings but it all seems very tacked on, like you're paying for features Sony and Microsoft want to see, not what we as gamers want to see..

Onto the reasons; PC graphics will ALWAYS be superior simply because you can change the hardware unlike with consoles, games like Total War: Rome 2 aren't on consoles, if they were, the controls would be rubbish and it wouldn't run as smoothly. There are less childish gamers on PCs, the community seems much more adult or grown-up. Then there's modding, oh the MODDING! Oculus Rift! Steam, the list goes on. I am sure all these reasons for PC gaming have been mentioned before but i needed to express my excitement and i apologise for my writing skills this is my first blog! I understand that PC gaming isn't just about playing games, its about improving your rig, looking after it, upgrading it, making it your own, it's a way of life and by the end of this year i'll begin my new exciting journey into PC gaming. Thanks for reading. - Mark
