calling this game "complex" is like calling twilight a "pleasurable" love story... not, true.

User Rating: 8.5 | PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale PS3
Playstation All-stars Battle royale, has done what few (if any) fighting games have done before, it has managed to create a fun party styled game, while still retaining a competitive fighting system for hardcore players. All-stars has a total of 20 charectors, each charactor containing over a two dozen moves and along with 3 unique specials. All-Stars does not play like many fighting games before it, and thats what makes it so different from Smash Bros. Instead of beating an opponent down untill their health is depleted, you must beat opponents to gain meter, this meter can then be use to preform one of three supers, these supers are the only thing able to defeat opponents. Now this may seem strange, but it works out so perfectly, the use of supers adds a whole layer of new fighting stratigy's. you could play defensively and keep opponents from gaining any meter, or focus on attacking opponents and gain meter faster, but allowing for other players to take advantage of you being distracted.

Online fighting mechanics and roster:

the online is Pitch perfect! I have yet to be disconnected from a match, as for the fighting mechanics, evey charector is special in their own way, both in supers and in fighting styles.
A good example is the difference between charectors like parrapa and sackboy, parrapa is extreem close range, while sackboy is the exact opposite, this results in a perfect mixture of fighting styles, and space controll for each charector. While the roster isnt what most fans expected, its far from bad, and has great diversity. you may notice the roster doesn't include much asked for chactors such as crash or sora, but what All-Stars looses in quanity, it gains in quality.

Story mode and Tournament mode:

While this game is truelly amazing, it falls short when it comes to arcade mode, (story) each charector has their own story, starting with a small cutscene in the begining a rival, and a final ending cutscene, the cutscenes are certainly dissapointing, as it seems like unrealistic reasoning for entering a battle, the same goes for the rivals, while almost always enjoyable, the fights seem quickly drawn up, and made up withought much thought. Though there are some very enjoyable rivals, such as big daddy and sackboy. While arcade isn't amazing, tournament mode is the crown jewl. every fight you do, will contribute to your level and belt color, the color is exatly what you think, black is the strongest player, while blue is the weakest. this is a great way to classify each player, and works perfectly, evey charector has a level, which can be gained easily from any type of fight, even arcade, you could easily gain 4-7 lvls in a single fight, this sets up a high lvl cap, up to 999 and see'ing a player enter a match with a rank of 567 sends chills down all his opponents,

Closing Thoughts:

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is the perfect example of celebrating a sony's history, I would hope any playstation owner would purchase this game, to see how great it is :D. its a shame that a gamespot reviewer would give it such a unfair review, i remember a time when i could trust gamespots reviews to reflect my purchses, none the less, it is the reviwers opinion, but if there is one thing this game ISN't Its "complex"
