Uh...what does any of this have to do with Pac-man again?
So the "story" revolves around Pac-man, of course, as he is sent by his wife, Mrs. Pac-man, to perform various tasks for either her or their children. These tasks include getting a bottle for Pac Baby....or climbing a mountain to pick a flower for the neighbor's birthday party, finding your son's stolen guitar and stopping a bubble gum monster. Yeah, that's the gist of the story anyway. There is also a villain known as the "Ghost Witch" who is the leader of PM's arch nemesis', the ghosts (Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde), but she doesn't do anything until the final chapter. I suppose I shouldn't complain since it's an old Pac-man game, but the story is practically non existent.
The most confusing part about this game is the name; "Pac-man 2"? Isn't that kind of suggesting that it builds on the already unbroken formula? Well it doesn't. Instead, it's a point and click game, and a boring one at that. Rather than controlling Pac-man, you control a sling shot located at the bottom of the screen and your goal is to protect and guide Pac-man as he reaches his destination. This sounds like a cool game mechanic on paper, but in this game, it can get kind of annoying. First of all, Pac-man has no backbone. He can't do anything on his own and he's constantly running away and screaming or getting himself hurt (or killed) because of his own stupidity. You have to do everything for him like tell him where to go and make sure he doesn't do something stupid. The worst part is if he gets depressed or angry, he stops listening to your commands and do what he wants, and trying to make him happy again so he'll obey is a pain. You'll eventually get tired of his back talk and shoot him with your sling shot (which is more entertaining ;)).
Of course the ghosts from the first game pop up every now and then hiding in boxes and trash cans. They can easily be identified by their eyes peeking through the boxes or cans and they only come out and attack Pac-man when shot. Pac-man is left helpless unless you shoot him a power pellet in which he turns into Super Pac-man; flying back and forth and he eats any ghost he runs into (for a short period of time). Sometimes it's required to get an item that they're holding. This part is interesting but unless you need the item, there's really no point and it just feels like a waste of time.
Perhaps the best parts of the game are the mini games. There are two you can play; hang gliding or mine karts. Both pretty much work the same, you have to guide Pac-man through either a mine or the sky and reach the goal while avoiding obstacles. When hang gliding, Pac-man is constantly decending and you have to tell him to go higher or shoot him with your sling shot for him to go lower (mostly used to avoid obstacles). You should also shoot certain ghosts or rocks to protect him to. The mine kart ride works similarly only you have to tell him to go faster and when you shoot him, he jumps out of his kart. These little side quests are probably the most interesting part of the game and offer a fun challenge.
Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the rest of this misadventure. I'll admit, I enjoyed this game when I was little, but looking back, Pac-man 2: The New Adventures is an annoying point and click game. Pac-man himself has been reduced to a pansy with no self intuitive and you'll find more fun ticking him off instead. Other than that, the game is easy enough, but it's boring, repetitive and forgettable. You'd be better off searching elsewhere for your point and click adventure fix instead.
