This is the best Mortal Kombat game in the series. Fans of this series and fighting gamers alike should be pleased.

When it comes to story, it begins right where Deadly alliance left off, but to tell you the truth, to me, mortal kombat isn’t about the story, it’s about the fighting, and the fatalities. People who have played deadly alliance should easily be familiar with the gameplay that deception has to offer. What was very disappointing in Deadly Alliance is that you only had one fatality per character and that’s it. Not even the awesome stage fatalities or pits which most people called them were in it. That I don’t understand because the fatalities are one of the reasons why mortal kombat became a huge success. But Deception changes that for the better. Now each character can perform 2 fatalities. Also each fighter can now perform a new type of fatality called "Hara Kiri." Hara Kiri is basically a suicide move in case if the player loses so that their opponent cannot perform their fatality on them. A few of them are actually lame, but a majority of them are pretty cool to see. For fans of the genre that were upset about having no pits in Deadly Alliance, well you don’t have to worry for one minute about that. Now there are over a dozen stage fatalities, including two from the classic mortal kombat games, like the pit from the first game, and the acid pool from the second.

There are new features that are in Deception that weren’t in Deadly Alliance. The best is that you can use the environment as a weapon. For examples not only are the pits back, but some arenas have more than multiple levels, so you can knock your opponet off to inflict damage. Also you can inflict damage to your opponent by knocking them into breakable items. Another plus you get is stage weapons. Some arenas have a weapon where you can walk up and use it against your enemies. Weapons such like the war hammer, axe, and many others. Another new great specialty that every fighter have is combo breakers, basically the name basically explains it itself. Here you have 24 characters, more available characters in any mortal kombat game except for the trilogy. Here they brought back not only the traditional fighters like Sub-zero, Scorpion, and Raiden, but some of the classic fighters from mortal kombat 2 and 3 like Baraka, Mileena, Sindel, and Nightwolf, and others from Deadly Alliance like Kenshi, and Bo Rai Cho.

There are two new game modes in mortal kombat deception. One of them is called puzzle Kombat, which basically is just like super puzzle fighter 2 turbo but with gore. Need I say more? but still this mode can be fun. The other mode is chess kombat. I actually like this mode because it involves a little thinking with a lot of twist here and there. Also it is a fast way to earn you some krypt koins. It plays a lot like chess, but when you try to take a piece, you go one round and winner takes the square. And some pieces are more powerful than others just like real chess.

When it comes to Graphics, the characters still remain the same much like Deadly Alliance, but they did improve greatly on the environments. Environments are more detailed, and the way they brought the old school arenas to our times was done excellent. Also the fatalities look really sweet. But when it comes to the characters in konquest, they are horrible, but the sceneries in that mode aren’t bad at all.

The audio can really use some help when it comes to some of the voiceover, but once again what is really cool is how they bring the old school soundtrack to some of the stages from the early mortal kombat games to these days. Plus the sounds of the punches/kicking and fatalities are really good. Overall the best thing in Deception is the replay value, it is insane. First of all you got hundreds of coffins to unlock that contains production art, clips, characters, outfits, and more. There are 400 coffins to unlock in the krypt. It is a little short compare to what Deadily Alliance had to offer, since that had 676, but the krypt in Deception is way more organized and better developed, and people will be more satisfied with it. Now most coffins have locks, in order to unlock them, you have to find the chest that contains that coffin in konquest mode. Also earning koins in Deception is a lot easier than Deadily Alliance. You got the konquest to complete, and you got two new modes in Deception to play as well; one of them is chess kombat, and puzzle combat. The best mode to play is easily the Arcade fighting mode. It is even better when playing against your friends, because this is a great multiplayer game. Also this is the first mortal kombat game online, so many will be pleased about that. Plus you got 48 fatalities, and 24 hara kiri to watch. You will be spending a lot of hours with this fighting game for sure.

Even though I say this is the best Mortal Kombat game, it still got some flaws. The biggest disappointment in this game is the konquest mode. First of all the story is bad, some of the graphics are awful, and the voiceover is just terrible. The only thing I like about konquest is that you can go explore the realms in the mortal kombat universe. Also you will encounter characters from the past mortal kombat games. also here once again just like the previous title, you will learn the basics on how to play the game, and learn other characters combos and special moves. learning the moves from other characters is a lot better than last years konquest. Another huge disappointment that was awesome in Deadly alliance is that the power ups and the ability to impale you opponent with your weapon are now gone. Also the test your might challenge is now gone too. To me I don’t know why they taken that away because it was fun.

In conclusion this is the best in the series, and mortal kombat fans will love this game. Anyone who is into fighting games should be pleased with this title.
