I'm not much of a race-driving gamer, but some games do attract my attention. MCLA is one of them.

I enjoy games, I'm a gamer, in my mid-thirties I still game quite a lot and enjoy it. Through the years I became more appreciative of games with more story, more depth and a slower pace. Although I 'grew up' with my very first Playstation, Playstation 2 and now the PS3 and WipeOut was always one of my favorites, it's fast, futuristic, hectic and fast and I even have Pulse on my PSP. I also enjoy the openness of the two latest Test Drive Unlimiteds (I Beta'd the TDU:2).

So having stated the above I wanted to indicate that sometimes the fast and furious games do have a place in my gamer heart.

Midnight Club LA, yes. What's there to say, in my humble opinion there are two things that first sprang to mind: "oh, that's beautiful" and "OMG WTF IS THIS SH&%!((!"$! ". Loosely translated in technical terms, "the graphics are awesome, I like the way it's build up" and "Christ, this game is so friggin' difficult I want to throw my Sixaxis through the window and kick my TV over". Again, this is the first thing I thought.

However.

After continuing playing, getting to know the controls and the streets better and using the retry race option more and more often I actually got to enjoy the streetracing more and more. Mind you, it's still a difficult game but over time you start to forgive the game because damnit, the graphics are great, the music is diverse and easy to listen to, you can pimp your cars over and over and narrate your pimping with your best Xzibit voice.

The controls are something to get used to (I had to at least) but work out fine and start making sense when you get better and better at the game. You can drive anywhere you want like in TDU, which gives the feeling the player is in full control (that I like).

All in all, if you look past the difficulty and keep playing this one is a keeper.

9.5 score.
