This is the Metal Gear Experience you have been waiting for. Metal Gear Solid 2 rocks out loud and will continue to do so for some time to come. The follow up to the hit Metal Gear Solid on the PSX is a great sequel and great game in and of itself. If you like story and gameplay this one is going to blow you away. Be warned though its not for the slow and dimwitted. Metal Gears stong point has always been its ablilty to make you connect to its characters be it snake or the villian he faces. Through well thought out and scripted story lines. That is no where stronger than in this game. Ultimatley making you question yourself towards the games end. With a few snags here and there this game still manages to come out on top. The story is about two years after the shadow moses island incident. Snake is aboard a frieght liner checking things out. Trying to find out about a new metal gear whenthings go wrong. The ship is suddenly taken over by russians. Things get quite intresting from here. Then two years later someone takes over for snake on sneaking missions. Not everybody who plays this game will like the idea of the big shell where you play an unamed individual for the purposes of this review. The big shell is the second part of the game and this is the part where you begin to get that twisted story going on. Saving the president who is a pawn to bigger things going on. Meeting with some memorable bosses who dont always work in leauge with their counter parts IE fat man. The story in this one has got to be heard to be appriciated so ill let you play though and enjoy. The game play is superb. With many refinments to the original like being able to hang from things, hiding in lockers, shooting radios so foes cant call for back up, and holding up enemies for info and dog tags are all stellar additions to the original gameplay and fit nicely. The ways you have to play the bosses are also great. Although the bosses arent as fleshed out as they were in the first game. The first metal gear it seemed as though each boss you face had a trick to beating them and then they would let you in on what their life was like when you id beat them. These guys seem more like some lunatics with something to prove. the end of this game isnt as good as the first in terms of what you do to battle bosses but when you reunite with snake and are back to back with him and fighting soldiers youll know you have arrived at the high point in this game. The graphics in this game a great considering its a PS2 game. I say that with great reserve because I am a PS2 owner ad fan so it pains me to point out that had it originally been an Xbox game it would have looked that much better. You caninteract with the back ground such as shoot watermelons and plates and lights. the way the cut scenes were directed was beautiful especially the part where snake meets olga for the first time. Youll also witness gaurds doing certain things like go to the bathroom and get sick. There are a lot of visual refrences to other games in here and some eye candy of japnese babes. The sound os wonderful bring the tried and true snake theme music to the fore front along with other music. The voice acting in this one is great as well. Gotta love that david hayter as snake sounds just scruffy enough to make you believe. The sound effects of weapons bombs and other assorments are right on time as well. The bottom line on this game if you love a good story, great gameplay, and dont mind the singleplayer challenges which seem to be dieing out then youll love this game to death. Play all of its brethren too I.e. Substance Solid 3 and solid 1, you cant go wrong with metal gear. Later and as usual PEACE OUT!!!
