User Rating: 7.7 | Medal of Honor GBA
Medal of Honor Underground for the GBA didn't really do anything good in particular, and thus it was forgotten quite easily. Now, about a 1 year later, another MOH game is released for the GBA, entitled Medal of Honor Infiltrator. Medal of Honor Infiltrator puts you in the shoes of Jake Murphy, who will have to go across five different missions battling German soldiers. You'll be asked to complete a few or so objectives in each level, and you'll also be able to collect rifles and other ammunition from specific houses in the level. The difference with Infiltrator compared to all the other MOH game is that it's sort of a 2D shooter because of it's mix with 2D and 3D graphics, although it's mostly 2D. With that said, Infiltrator is actually quite a good game on it's own merits, but fails to capture the MOH experience found on the consoles and PC. Graphically, Infiltrator surprises us with it's beautiful 2D cutscenes. The backgrounds are colorful, but basically, some of the areas in the level look a bit bland in places, and you'll notice right off the bat there are some overused textures in a level. Some of the characters are also a bit blocky and clunky, and you can't see them in much detail, but it's a good thing they animate smoothly without any trouble. If you've been relying on MOH's music in all their games, Infiltrator continues the trend. Infiltrator boasts new and composed songs, but the downside is that they aren't really as catchy and impressive as 3D MOH games. You also might find some annoyance in the music, but it shouldn't keep you from listening to the music to it's fullest. Sounds of guns clattering is also a nice factor, and proves that MOH games on the GBA is not quite as bad as everyone thinks. Five missions is a definite clue that the game is rather short. Also, some of the later levels in the game are just flat-out difficult to complete, as you'll be battling a number of enemies and doing a number of objectives while trying to maintain you're health. You'll also spot less and less ammunition houses as you move on, so it's best to keep all your weapons and use them efficiently. If you don't, you might be in some serious trouble. Infiltrator gives out a nice challenge in the later levels, so you might want to check that out as well. Surpriseldy, Medal of Honor Infiltrator finally gives hope to the Medal of Honor series on the GBA. An all-out new adventure, mixed in with some decent music, and a nice challenge give MOH Infiltrator a nice addition to the 2D shooters on the GBA. Although some of the characters' sprites are on the clunky and un-detailed side, and the game is short and quick, you'll definitely find Infiltrator to be a bit fun. If you like any of the Metal Slug games, Medal of Honor Infiltrator plays somewhat similar to Metal Slug. Fans of 2D action shooters, and fans of the Medal of Honor series, should consider checking out Medal of Honor Infiltrator, as it offers a good taste of Medal of Honor on the GBA.
