After an impressive anime series, you'd think they'd be able to pull off a decent Medabots game. But no.....

Usually I have an opening comment for my reviews, but for this game, I honestly don't know what to say. It sucks. It flat out sucks. That's basically all you need to know, but if you'd like to know why, keep reading.

The story isn't super deep here, so if you bought this and were hoping for something great, good, or maybe even decent, you're going to be very disappointed. Ikki and Medabee visit a new theme park filled with various environments made for robattling. Along the way, they meet their friends, who are also looking around. Later on, the RubberRobo Gang infiltrates the park, and they start screwing with everyone (like they usually do). That's pretty much it. In fact, I didn't even finish the game, I got about two-thirds of the way done before I got completely fed up with it.

The gameplay had the potential to be fun, but many things hindered it. In the main park area, you control Ikki and can explore the area and go inside of different "zones." Ikki can also customize Medabee, combining different parts with different abilities to make a powerful fighting machine. The other main part of the game includes running around a "zone" (a jungle environment, an arctic environment, etc.) with Medabee. In these parts, you run around super slow, can fire your weapons (both arms and a limited usage for your head part), and can do a quick front flip that acts as a jump. The goal is to hit switches to open other closed areas, do some Robattles, then finish up. Sounds simple enough right? Unfortunately, it's just the opposite. The levels take forever to get across, common enemies and simple traps manage to hurt you pretty bad if they hit you, and when you finally do find the switch, you have to run all the way back to the other side of the map (usually). Then (either along the way or at the end, or both), you have to fight other Medabots. This sounds like it would be decent, but the weapons and controls are really slow and clunky, and it takes literally a million shots for the other Medabot to go down. Now, picture doing all that while dealing with a time limit. That's right, all this frustration, and you're being timed too. Doesn't really seem fun, does it? Then the makers of the game figure, "Hey, they're dealing with a lot of annoying gameplay, so let's make it so they can level up and get more powerful!" There is no point. This factor doesn't add anything to the game and it takes forever to level up anyways.

The music is a slight redeeming factor, as some of the tracks are actually catchy at times. The sound effects are good, the graphics aren't too impressive, and replay value doesn't exist here. Trust me, you won't be coming back.

Overall, don't even bother with this game. Even if you're a huge fan of the anime (like I am), don't get it, it's a waste of your time and money. If you still decide to get this, then go ahead and start playing. When the fanboy in you goes away and the gamer in you comes back, you'll see what I'm talking about.
