One of the most insane fighting games around, although they could of done a whole lot more things to do in this game.

User Rating: 8.1 | Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes (Modem Pack) PS2

Gameplay:
It’s been a while for this game to finally come it the Playstation 2, but it is finally here. The arcade perfect fighting game finally arrives to your home.

Lets talk about the fighting in this game shall we? It is 3 vs.3 insane tag team fighting. The way to win is to defeat all 3 of the other teams fighters. You got a huge selection of fighters to choose, up to 56 players from the marvel comics and the Capcom franchise. One big change is that once you pick your character, you can choose what kind of attack your partner will use when it comes to the tag team hyper combo, and when he’ll come in and do an assists attack. What’s great about the assist attacks you partners does is that there is no limit, you can use it as many times as you want, but you got to be careful when using this. If you use your partner to do an assist attack, he could end up in a world of crap if the enemy is using one of his hyper combos at the same time so keep that in mind. Another change is that now they took out the medium punch/kick button, and they replace it with the two-helper buttons (the attacks I just talk about). Another change is that now you can link your super combos with all 3 players, if you pick the right characters and attack modes for each one, then that’s going to look insane once you do one hyper combo, then change to another person and do another. Also now you can bring all 3 players on screen at the same time and just annihilate your opponent with 3 hyper combos at the same time. Plus the super combo meter bar can go up to 5 instead of 3 from the previous game which makes sense since you now have 3 fighters instead of two characters.

I will admit that if you never played the previous tag team fighting games before, and you are new to this type of genre, it will take you a lot of time to learn the basics, because this is one of the hardest games to understand, and it is a button masher for sure. Thankfully you got the training mode. This mode will help you out to figure out the moves and the awesome combos you can create. You can set up the computer to do nothing or fight against it base on your choice of characters and difficulty, and you play against a friend in this as well. You also got the arcade mode, score attack, and vs. mode. Too bad there wasn’t a lot more modes though, but when you play this, you will see some of the most insane fighting action unlike any other.

Graphics:
Very impressive I must say for a 2-D fighter. It is identical with the arcade version. Even though the characters are still 2-D, the backgrounds are made up of 3-D scenes. They are fully color and looks really good. Another great thing is that there is barely any framerate drop, which is great. Even though that this isn’t the greatest looking fighting game out there, but it is very good looking game.

Sound:
Oh man, this is the worst, because of the music. My goodness, what the hell was Capcom thinking when they were doing the music? The sound effects are not bad, but they could be better. To me what would be perfect is if they put some hardcore rock and roll to this type of fighting, then that would be perfect. Also some of the voiceover sounds really annoying, that could use some help.

Value:
Well you start off with 24 fighters, and you got to unlock 32 more, which will take you some time. Then you got to unlock all of the alternative costumes and the artwork for each character. The more you unlock for these two, the higher the price gets. So unlocking all of these will take you forever, but the way you have to unlock them isn’t too good to me. It isn’t as close as fun as Burnout 3/revenge is when it comes to unlocking stuff. Also there isn’t that many modes, the only difference are the artwork, that’s it. But taking this game to a friend’s house is a ton of fun. Also there aren’t too many modes for you to have fun with, which really sucks.

Flaws:
Well the first and major thing is bad is the music because it is just really awful. I mean just so annoying and doesn’t fit to this game at all. Another big thing is that unlocking the characters and getting new costumes or checking out the artwork is such a pain in the ass. Basically you have to beat the game over and over and over to get points, or how long you been playing in the training mode. There could of done it a better way. Another thing is that when going up against the computer in the later fights, they are just impossible to beat. When going up against the computer on the first fight, it isn’t hard at all, but once you get to the 5th, 6th, or 7th round, They basically know your every move, and will kick your ass. Which to me playing against a friend is the best, which right there is where the excitement is because then it is anybody’s game, instead of the computer a lot of the time. No online, that’s a bummer.

Conclusion:
The fighting mode is just pure awesome. Although I wish that Capcom could of done a lot more with this such as online, better modes, and way better music. But none less people who loved this game in the arcade, and fans from the previous games should love playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
