One great story and a few lame "mini-games" fused into Lux-Pain.

The story in this game is unpredictable.

You never know what's going to happen, as a virus known as Silent infects peoples' Shinen (Thoughts or Philosophy), and causes anybody to do the strangest things from suicide to mass murder.

It's a Phoenix Wright styled interaction system where 2-D characters stand in front of you and you talk to them while trying to put up with the fact nothing moves except the text and occasionally their expressions. Voice acting is scarce but its still present. Some voices can be really annoying as well, and the voice acting can be inconsistent with the text shown.

Speaking of the text, the localization is horrible. Typos runs almost as rampant as corruption in the Senate. Everyone is a "him", and sometimes what people say just don't add up. Considering that apparently some characters have trouble translating things into Japanese when they ARE Japanese and living in Japan, I'm not surprised.

Plus, a suicide in a game can be pretty heartbreaking if that character is important to the player. However, (May or may not be an exaggeration) enough suicides and attempted suicides occur in the game that all those people could come together to form a highly populated goth village. Murder and Insanity is rampant in this game as well, making it a great mystery novel.

However, that's all it is, a novel. To read peoples' Shinen, you scratch at them and put your stylus on the worm that appears long enough until it implodes. There's more to that, but it does not change the fact it's crazy easy and almost pointless. Then, there's the subject of boss fights. The Silent hiding in Shinen you find must be fought to restore the person's sanity/sensibility, yet its still easy. Originally, dots appear on the screen and you must tap them when they expand and turn white. It's also crazy easy. Like Elite Beat Agents for those who are a combination of blind and paralyzed in the hands. Eventually, you have to tap glass or pull strings to the corners to open up the white dot, and then you have to slash at it. It's as challenging as taking candy from a blind, paralyzed baby. All in all, it's perhaps the worst game I've played, but the one of the best, yet sometimes freaky and sad, stories I have ever read. It is better off as a novel, one that should not be copied and pasted into a translator.
