The worst things that can happen to a fast paced action game like first person shooters {FPS} are on display in Killzone. The graphics engine is horrid. It's loaded with framerate drops and white graphic seams appear way to often. The fog of war is a nice concept, but it is really used to hide the PS2's weak graphics chip {by todays standards} because textures are constantly drawing on screen and it really distracts the gamer from having an immersive experience. The physics engine is bad as well with low frame ragdoll animations. A grenade explosion won't propel an enemy in air and how realistic is that? The helghast character animations are pathetic. Their running or walking never seems believable and often times look like their just sliding across the terrain. The voice acting is terrible with some of the worst sounding character comments I've ever heard and they repeat over and over and over. The AI is pitiful. The enemies pretty much run straight at you to be shot or often times they are locked up and won't even notice you and stand there to die. The online multiplayer is the only redeeming piece here , but considering how great and innovative a game can be online like Halo 2 or Ghost Recon 2, you would be better served sticking with the SOCOM series. In conclusion, Killzone does not hold up well and will be a budget title very soon. It does have nice art direction and a nice overall style and look. Which makes it a shame the gaming engine, physics, voice acting, and AI are so bad, because the concept was there for a great game. I believe another developer should have worked on this game instead of Guerilla, because they have ruined both this game and Shellshock. IF YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST PLAY THIS GAME, RENT IT AND SAVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY.
