All Mario Kart World Items: Everything Confirmed So Far

Since the first Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo, items have been used to make or break a race. Whether you're in first place, trying to keep it, or just trying to keep up, Mushrooms, Starman, Lightning, and all sorts of shells have all come in handy one way or the other.
During the Mario Kart World Direct, we got our first look at some new items that will expand your arsenal and add more challenges--or help you score some extra coins, if your fellow racers don't get them first. Nintendo also revealed some returning items, like Bullet Bill and Lightning. Both are some of the most notorious items that easily impact a race if they're used.
On top of that, there are also food items coming to the game that customize your character with themed outfits. Make your way through a drive-thru and pick up some grub, and get new looks as you continue your ride.
Check out the items that will be coming to Mario Kart World, out June 5. We'll update this list as more items are confirmed.
Coin Shell
Mario Kart World has introduced the golden Coin Shell. Instead of firing on your opponents or being used as a barricade, when launched, this shell will create a trail of coins behind it. However, you're not the only one who can grab them. So when you use it, make sure nobody is around to take advantage of you leaving around free money.
Ice Flower
Similarly to the Mario world staple, the Fire Flower, the Ice Flower gives you the power to throw ice balls at your rival racers to briefly freeze them up and even cause them to spin out. The Ice Flower has been used in the Mario Bros. games before (the first being Partners in Time), and is returning to the Mario Kart series after being introduced in Tours.
Hammer
Hammers are thrown in a wide arc and work in two ways: one being that you'll outright just hit your rival racers, causing them to crash out. Once they land, they'll be stuck on the track for a few seconds, so you can then block off parts of the course to slow down and stop other racers.
Mega Mushroom
The Mega Mushroom returns from Mario Kart Wii. Prepare to get large and charge on the track with these shrooms. Whereas regular mushrooms would help with acceleration, this one transforms the racer into a super-sized version of itself. While they're in mega mode, racers can stomp and literally run over their opponents to get ahead in the race.
Feather
Originally appearing in Super Mario World, the Feather returns to help racers do a super jump to avoid attacks. You can also use it to jump over parts of the track and find unexpected routes.
Kamek
The famed Magikoopa is stepping away from the driver's seat and is now an item in the game. When you get the Kamek item, you summon the mischievous wizard as he transforms your rival racers into different creatures. In the video, we only saw a brief example of his power, but it was hinted that there are several more forms at his disposal.
Mushroom
An oldie, but a goodie. The classic mushroom is coming back to help racers get that extra boost of speed to maybe cross the finish line, or to at least place.
Starman
The Mario Bros. item that makes the player invincible is also returning. The radiant star glows with power as it makes you an unstoppable force on the course. The invincibility and speed only last for a moment, so take advantage while you can.
Red Shell
Like a heat-seeking missile, this crimson cannonball is fired once and hunts down the next racer in front of you, sending them into shellshock.
Gold Mushroom
This item gives the racer temporary speed boosts whenever they push the Item button, unlike a regular Mushroom, which hits immediately when you get it.
Triple Banana
What's better than one banana? A whole bunch! The Triple Banana item gives three times the chance to let your rivals slip and spin out of control. The item does come in a single edition, as well.
Triple Mushroom
Is one mushroom not good enough? Much like the Triple Banana item, the Triple Mushroom has the power of a regular Mushroom times three. Three times to get that extra distance between you and your opponents and maybe even cross the finish line.
Green Shell
Another Mario Kart staple, the Green Shell, when fired, launches in a straight line. It then can ricochet off your opponents or a barrier for another chance to take out another racer.
The Triple Green Shell also creates a barrier that knocks other races away or can also be used to launch much like the single Green Shell.
Lightning
One of the rarer and nefarious items is returning as Lightning will be coming back to Mario Kart World. Summon bolts of lightning, causing chaos as your opponents spin out and shrink, slowing them down.
Bullet Bill
Transform yourself into a living rocket as you zoom and boom your opponents down the track when you're granted the powers of a Bullet Bill. Getting this item gives you super speed and power to take out your rival racers.
Spiny/Blue Shell
The Blue Shell has probably ended friendships that were longer than the actual Mario Kart franchise. This rare item is only granted to the players who are way behind and is an absolute difference maker. When fired, the shell acts like a bomb that flies toward the first-place racer and explodes in a giant burst, affecting all racers around them.
Boomerang Flower
One of the more tactical weapons from Mario Kart is returning as well with the Boomerang. Now, it works a bit differently this time around, with the racer who picks this up getting a timer for the item. They have to use the boomerang by the time it runs out, with the distance getting farther each time, instead of just being able to throw it (or not to psyche out your opponents).
Fire Flower
This time around, your fireballs are much bigger and faster, but they give you fewer throws than previous editions, so it balances out.
Bob-omb
This classic item does have a slight change in that if you have the item in the back of your kart, if anybody comes up on you, they'll explode and you won't.
Coinbox
Getting brought back from Mario Kart Tour, the Coinbox still gives you coins when you smack it, but the trail is a bit more precise. It'll leave two coins behind you, until the last hit will leave you 10.
Blooper
The little squid will splash your screen with its ink but this time looks darker than ever.
Boo
The Boo is back! He'll steal an item for you and make you invisible for a short period, making you also impervious to certain terrain obstacles. The tradeoff is that while you're in this ghost form, you can't pick up more items.
Superhorn
From what we can tell, the Superhorn remains pretty much the same. It still hits racers around you and can probably break Blue Shells again, since that was the top reason for the item, but that hasn't been confirmed just yet.
There is a different design to the actual waves that are more colorful instead of just plain shockwaves.
