Are you looking for Assassin Outposts in Assassin's Creed Shadows? These used to be the hideouts of the Kakushiba Ikki, now fallen into disrepair after being abandoned by the faction. It's up to Naoe to find out if there are any secrets that have been left behind. Our guide has all the details to help you discover these locations, but please take note that there will be spoilers ahead.
Where to find all Assassin Outposts in Assassin's Creed Shadows
The Kakushiba Ikki is a splinter faction of the Assassin Brotherhood, comprised of formidable warriors such as Nagato (Naoe's father), Tsuyu (Naoe's mother), and the nigh-legendary Hattori Hanzo. However, the greater conflict that tore apart Japan and the incessant ambition of warlords caused the group's numbers to dwindle.
Here are the requirements to unlock this mini-quest chain:
- Complete Naoe's personal quests - Before the Fall and Wolves and Foxes.
- Complete Secrets of the Blade - You can learn more about this in our Old Kofun/Secrets of the Blade guide.
- Yasuke's personal quests (unconfirmed) - We've completed Yasuke's personal quests, such as An Education, Lady of Whispers, and Lords of Azuchi. However, we're unable to confirm if these are required if you're just searching for the Assassin Outposts.
Last but not least, it's worth noting that the Assassin's Creed Shadows Assassin Outposts are fairly close to Hidden Paths. These are optional activities that yield Knowledge Points, as well as high-rarity gear. It's worth grabbing the loot from the nearby chests while you're investigating the documents in each area.
Assassin Outposts in Iga and Omi
The map above shows the locations of Assassin Outposts in the Iga and Omi regions.
Iga Assassin Outpost
- Location: Nabari Wilds - The closest fast travel point is Nabari Lookout. You can go around the cliffside area until you're able to climb to the top of the plateau where you'll find a ransacked camp.
- Reward from Path of Shadows chest: Yo-nu-shin's Gear (epic light armor).
Omi Assassin Outpost
- Location: Suzuka Foothills - Technically, you're better off starting from the Hidden Path section along the river to the south. Eventually, you'll reach a cliffside section with a crawlspace that leads to this abandoned hideout. The chest itself is on a rock formation--you have to grapple across the gap to get it.
- Reward from Path of the Blade chest: Sumire's Gear (epic light armor).
Assassin Outposts in Kii and Yamato
The map above shows the Assassin Outposts in the regions of Kii and Yamato. We've also marked down the location of the Meaning of the Blade quest, which is somewhat related, given the tasks and themes.
Kii Assassin Outpost
- Location: Iseji Trails - This particular Assassin Outpost in Assassin's Creed Shadows is far to the southeastern part of the map. Ideally, you'll want to tag the nearest fast travel point, and then make your way to the Path of the Chosen starting area. It's going to be a long trek as you grapple, leap, and shimmy from one section all the way to the top of the mountain.
- Reward from Path of the Chosen chest: Yu-no-shin's Hood (epic headgear).
- Rewards from Clifftop Yamabushi - There's an enemy at the campsite, and he's actually part of the Yamabushi Imposters side quest/assassination board:
- Lustrous Pearl (legendary naginata)
- Knockdown on Postured Combo Ender (legendary engraving)
Yamato Assassin Outpost
- Location: Katsuragi - From the map label that says "Katsuragi," head south until you see the Mizumi Pagoda fast travel point. The letter and symbol that you need to check are in the pagoda.
- Reward from Path of Secrets chest: Sumire's Hood (epic headgear)
Meaning of the Blade
The Assassin's Creed Shadows Meaning of the Blade quest also follows the same theme where Naoe tries to look for clues about the Kakushiba Ikki. Here's what you need to know:
- This objective only appears once you've defeated all 12 Shinbakufu bosses. The last target, the Horseman, will provide you with the information.
- You have to go to Sakafuneishi in Asuka Rocks Basin, which is just to the east of the Yamato Assassin Outpost. Once there, interact with the stone slab that has the symbol of the Brotherhood.
- Inspect the items in the underground chamber and watch the cutscene.
That does it for our guide on where to find all Assassin Outposts in Assassin's Creed Shadows. If you're planning to tackle the Meaning of the Blade quest, then you might be wondering if you should kill or forgive a certain character.
