I like to play Call of Duty, pwn some 12 years old in a couple matches, and then call it a day (in reality, the 12 year olds usually pwn me). It's a fun game when I just want to sit back and relax. I recently picked up Tony Hawk Pro Skater and I can see this game being the perfect pick up and play type game. This game takes me back. Love attempting different combos to the awesome soundtrack. I also used to play Forza Horizon as well. That's another great game to chill with. How about you, SW? What's your favorite pick up and play type game?

I love a few good SFV matches every once in a while ... i'm no longer looking to rank up that much, just to have fun. NBA2K20 is also a great time waster, specially because i have my custom league and i love to play a few games each week.

I'm looking to pick up some more platformers. It's instant pick-up-and-play gratification, cos these wordy games become too much of a time sink. Sometimes I just want to sit down for an hour and play, then do other things.

You gonna get Crash 4? For $60, it's seems too much. I recently got New Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Maker 2 on sale. I'm thinking about getting Sackboy lol. @ConanTheStoner has got me interested in it lol.

Quite a few different options for me. First, looter games. Used to be Diablo, Titan Quest and such, but these days those games literally physically exhaust me, so I can't play them for any longer than about a hour. It's why I've switched to looter shooters, which I found a lot less physically taxing.

Also, arena shooters. Still have a UT2004 botmatch every now and then. Finally, fighting games; Street Fighter IV, Injustice 1 & 2, Soulcalibur VI. A few rounds here and there.

I haven't even completed the N. Sane trilogy... Forgot about using the ropes on the rope bridge in Crash 1, and rage-quit lol.

I was interested by Sackboy... If they fixed the poor-man's platforming of the LBP franchise (which it seems they did), then i'm definitely down.

@SolidGame_basic:

Tony Hawk or the Skate games for sure.

I do love picking up CoD for some online or Gears on horde mode to mess around for some fun.

Lol, I remember that. I got stuck on it too, until I realized, I can just jump on the rope and complete the level that way lol. If you're up for a non-platformer, Tony Hawk is great. It's straight to the point. Just doing tricks and listening to great music (well, I think it's great lol).

Most of my favorite games/genres are all about getting straight to it, pure gameplay experiences. Though a lot of them can be a bit involved mechanically, not exactly just jump in on a whim type stuff.

Games I can just hop in and out of tend to be the 2d stuff. Platformers, beat em ups, shmups, etc. a lot of the game types that are rooted in classic console and arcade gaming. Outside that, a lot of old school shooters fit the bill, can always hop into classic Doom + wads.

Specific pick up n play games that I've been on lately, lots of Mario Maker, Mario 35, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic Mania, SOR, etc. itching to play some Mega Man as well.

For just kind of general zoning out, I really like city builders and management games.

There's no real win or lose, just sort of sandbox create and design and let your creative juices flow.

Click-fest games like Diablo are also nice.

A lot of puzzle, fighting, racing, and gen 6 eXtreem sportz games fit this bill for me. One of my go-toos is 1080: Avalanche. This game was understandably overlooked coming out hot on the heels of SSX3, and frankly being less ambitious in almost every way. Tracks were short and there weren't a whole lot of them, trick system was kinda simple, and the soundtrack was mid-tier rock of the early 2000's. But, it does have one thing it does better, sense of speed. That combined with it's simple nature make it easy to pick up and play again after a long break. And the Avalanche levels might be the most viscerally satisfying moments in the entire snowboarding genre. Too bad there are only three of those...

A few other games of this nature that I enjoy are Soul Calibur, Motorstorm, King of Fighters, Power Stone, Chu Chu Rocket, Tetris, NFL Blitz, Tony Hawk...

If I'm not playing solo, I'm co-oping with friends online. Could be Destiny. Could be Dead by Daylight (survival). Could be many games. Just depends on what we're in the mood for.

I like a lot of 8/16-bit games because you can often beat the game in one setting of a couple of hours. Sonic, Mario, Mega Man, whatever.

Definitely racing games it happened on the ps4 with gravel which I picked up dirt cheap and really enjoyed the arcade pick up and play single player. Happened again when I pick up Forza horizon 3 which was being delisted for £6.49 which is probably the best £6 I've spent in gaming.
