Poll What is the greatest Ubisoft Game ever made..? (62 votes)

AC4 - Black Flag 6%
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory 34%
Far Cry 3 10%
Rayman Legends 13%
Something else...... 32%
Ubisoft has never made a "good" video game... 5%

Happy holidays! I'm so used to seeing Ubisoft shoot itself in the face that I almost forget they once had this rather compelling run of great games! Ghost recon, rainbow six, Splinter Cell, Rayman, AC, Far Cry... I mean, there was a time when they were rocking, before every game coalesced into this samezy, bloated, brainless approach we've all come to loathe.

If you can draw yourself through the history of Ubisoft does one game stand out as their finest work?

I think for me I was most completely hooked on Splinter Cell games the Ezio trilogy and far Cry 3.... Many others I had a great time with but I'd say for me it's between far Cry 3 and AC Brotherhood.

I'm good with Black Flag, fun game. Played it to 100% completion I believe. Thinking about it makes me wanna fire it up again.

Chaos Theory. If it were just the excellent campaign, might be a tough choice among the Ubi classics. But then there's a great co-op mode along with Spies vs Mercs which is still some of coolest multiplayer gaming I've experienced.

Beyond Good & Evil, AC2, Rayman Origins & Legends, PoP Sands of Time, PoP 2008, Pop Forgotten Sands, Far Cry 3, and Disney's Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers are the better Ubisoft games IMO.

In this order:

  1. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (Voted)
  2. AC: Black Flag
  3. Child of Light (really a great game that hardly anyone talks about)

Ever? I dunno, but in the last decade or so I'd say maybe Division 2 followed by AC Valhalla.

Chaos Theory probably ... really would've liked to try its multiplayer.

As an honorable mention PoP Forgotten Sands. It's better then any of the other 3D entries in the series... there I said it.

@TheEroica: Played and completed both Far Cry 3 and AC Brotherhood, and while both were OK and perhaps good, they are nowhere near Ubi's best games.

Also do games published by Ubi count also?

The Anno series is pretty great if you love city-builder/trading games. Just a really excellent blend of building a city, setting up industry and agriculture, and a good bit of combat.

They're really deep games with a bunch of different biomes and settings and cultures.

Anno 1800 is their most recent and one of their best, and pretty great if you want a turn-of-the-century industrial-revolution inspired game.

They even have some futuristic sci-fi ones that are great fun as well.

The humor is also pretty charming as well.

The Division 2 is criminally overlooked. I personally believe it is one of the best looter-shooters out there, and a damn good extraction shooter. Far far better than Destiny 2, Borderlands, etc.

@my_user_name: Did you play the Wii version of Forgotten Sands? It's a completely different game from the PS360 one, and also very good.

But Sands of Time is still the best. 😁

The fact every game listed is at least 15-20+ years old says alot.

It says Ubisoft is shit, which is actually fairly short.

Really.

Maybe the sands of time. Because it's an excellent game in both gameplay and its narrative.

Maybe anno 1602. Not sure if that is under Ubisoft but it's a genre defining game for me. Build your city, build your flotilla and army. Every step feels like a small success.

Assassin's creed has many brilliant entries, and I'm excited for the next one.

Or maybe it's Valiant Hearts, it's a rather simple game but it tells such an excellent story and I really love its visual style.

@R4gn4r0k: Yeah Valiant Hearts and Child of Light are both fantastic games that have been forgotten. I wish they still made games like that.

But for me, it's a toss up between Black Flag and Chaos Theory.

chaos theory is their magnum opus imo.

back when they were churning out bangers for fun, ct was their high point, which in itself is no easy task, but it's because it's stood the test of time in the way it has which confirms its place at the top of the pile for me.

it'll be 20 years old next year, but it's aged like fine wine, something so very few games have been able to do. still fantastic to play, dripping in atmosphere, it's a timeless classic.

try playing black flag now. it feels like a very basic, press-x-to-win kind of game. it was fun back then, full of charm, but now, not so much.

We got Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos theory in a span of like 4 years.... About half as long as it takes a modern day Sony first party studio to screw up a live service game.

Those were special times.... Then we got drunk on prettier trees and frame rates and now AAA gaming is too expensive and not as good... 😔🤷

Edit... Sorry, there were 3.5 years between SC1 and Chaos theory.... Literally 3 bangers in three years.

I'm pretty loose on the rules... A game that represents Ubisoft best work.

Also, brotherhood was apex of Ezio... Rome was gorgeous and I was able to navigate the city when I visited it with my wife based on the game! It was really cool. Far Cry was also a game with a fantastic loop... It has been degraded since the last several far Cry s are doing the same thing... Still, when it launched it was a great.

The Xbox version of Double Agent is basically a sequel to it.

Ignore the next-gen version, it's trash.

Yup, it's looter-shooter in most areas but (iirc) there's like four corners of the map where it turns into PvPvE and you go in, get better loot, and then extract it out on a helicopter.

Not big on PvP these days (or anything too intense, to be frank...such a casual lol) but the few hours I spent in those zones were pretty fun.

Division really did a good job setting the tone and stakes, letting you know you're going into a dangerous area.

@TheEroica: Well if we're talking franchise then it has to be the Splinter Cell series without a doubt, second would be some of the AC games an PoP games.

But I'm fond of some of Ubi's lesser known stuff like F1 Pole Position 64, Speed Devils, Street Racer, and the brilliant Monaco Grand Prix Racing Simulation 2 among some of my faves, and then there's smaller type games like Child of Light etc, and most of them are not well known, as most "gamers" only know about AC.

So can't name a single best game so you'll have to do with best overall series of games instead.

In term of impact there is no other bigger than Far Cry 3. Idk if its the first but the open world mechanics so good it been replicated in other critically acclaimed games like in Zelda Breath of the Wild, Batman Arkham Knight, Horizon Zero Dawn and honestly most other open world games.

Shout out to Assassin's Creed as well.

I feel Unity improved the series in meaningful ways and it had some really great crowd tech that is still impressive.

Origins was perhaps my favourite one yet because of the setting, the history but also I really liked the step towards becoming an RPG (lite)

It featured chariots, horses, camels and a really great variety of weapon types too.

Ashraf Ismail was such a passionate project lead and it really showed for this entry;

I still think it's such a shame he was let go over something so small.

Far Cry 3 and Chaos Theory come to mind. Assassins Creed II is a close 3rd there. They had some fun games back in the day. I'd say the last game I really enjoyed from them would probably be Rainbow Six Siege...I put so many hours into that game on PC like damn...lol

Easily splinter cell chaos theory. it was so good that it made Ubisoft my fav developer back in 00s.

with splinter cell 3, Prince of persia sands of time, Far cry 2. Ubisoft releasing masterpiece after masterpieces.

Far cry 3 was good but weaker of them and probably last good ubisoft game.
