Seriously. Is anyone else in my boat?

I really have no interest in shooting games. And last year it was really easy to avoid them. I had a PS2 and a gamecube. The game library was never so littered with shooters as it is today. I pretty much played JRPGs and survival horror games with a few exceptions.

But now ... even the games I used to play are turning into shooters (RE4 ... 5 *cough*). Why do you think this is? Is there a reason for recent increase in shooters or did I just miss them before?

It's also hard to tell to know what system to get for RPGs because they're BOTH getting JRPGs now. :s

Is this generation delivering the games you like? It just seems like so much less. Unless you love shooters.

Only shooter worth playing is Halo 3, but you can find a few decent rpgs, action and fighting games this gen and Forza 2 if you're into racing sims and Viva Pinata, Crackdown and Dead Rising are cool.

Shooters make up the minority of releases in a year on all three platforms, you're seeing nothing but shooters because it's what you want to see, but what you see simply doesn't jive with reality. The X360 at least, has a strong showing in every single genre the PS2 had last gen, and then some.

I think you are very wrong in all respects. FF4. Too Human. Fallout 3. Oblivion. Soul Calibur 4. Mario Kart. Galaxy. Brawl. Fable 2. Wario Shake It. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. FF Crisis Core. Spore. If anyone else is in your boat, its with you deep at the bottom of the ocean under a rock.

EDIT: And maybe, just maybe, try a shooter out, because in reality, they are pretty fun.

I'm only interested in these two. Maybe I'm just too picky. ^^;

Does anyone know if Blizzard released any information on SC2? Shouldn't it be coming out this year?

Well, one of the things I think is playing against the amount of JRPGs we are seeing so far is the fact that the PS2 is still kicking and the handhelds are the most popular in Japan.

I love shooters, but market flooding has turned me off them, so yes I am in the same boat as you. I normally try to steer away from WW2 shooters the most since they are THE embodiment of generic games. Sci-fi shooters along with other variations are okay with me.

I haven't bought either console yet really. I've been waiting ... plus I can't afford it yet. But I've been thinking PS3 simply because of the import capabilities, the JPSN, and games on that system that I want more than the xbox.

I may eventually get both systems.

Nice generalization. Can I then surmise that all PS3 and/or Wii fans are just blind? Since they squint their eyes and just "conveniently" miss Forza 2, SoulCalibur IV, DOA4, Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Viva Pinata, Beautiful Katamari, Ninja Gaiden 2, Kameo, Ace Combat 6, DMC 4 and others when looking at the 360 library?

im going to get BF3 but other then that shooters are dead to me. COD4 has ok spastick shooting like the good old days of mohaa but im tired of it and other then metroid prime corruption there is not one shooter that i have liked and could play to the end let alone twice.

i want some more 2D games or great RPG's that are fun to play like those old SNES classics. this gen is lacking when it comes to staying power

some how i dout that seeing as i still play chrono trigger, secret of mana/evermore, ff3, link to the past, and every now and then a few other. but with in every 2 or 3 years i play through all of those game. thats lasting power.

i use to do that with some ps1 games but the disks dont read any more on the ps1 or ps2 so RIP ffT/7

I play PS1 games more than any other games. More times than any other games.

Slim PS2s are getting a price slash soon I think ... There seems to be a new one coming out or sometihng.

I said that a long time ago. there arent alot of other games this gen that arent shooters, im big on rpgs but i dont see alot of them on any console. I see a few but not as big as it use to be in past gens. I dont care for shooters all that much so i dont have many games to play, even though there are some shooters i found myself liking.

i will never spend more then 250 and playstations must have BC those are my terms of purchase

No, I've looked. I just have interest in very few titles. I'm basically interested in Star Ocean 4, Little Big Planet, Valkyria Chronicles, Final Fantasy XIII, and Siren: Blood Curse.

XBOX360 has a lot more JRPGs, the problem is I'm weary of its JRPGs becuase I didn't like the last Tales I played and hated SO3, although this one looks like its a higher quality title so I'm interested. So idk.

I used to be interested in Silent Hill and Resident Evil but I sort of lost interest in those two series due to one becoming a shooter and the other being handled by SH2 fanboys.

I agree, too many shooters this generation. Creativity has been left far behind, and there are too many generic action games this gen. If the game doesn't evolve around killing, the kiddies won't like it.

Then the problem is on your end, not the gaming world. A large diversity of games is out there, one which shooters are a minority of. (M rated games as a whole, in fact) Your personal tastes are limiting your experiences, this lack of diversity you initially spoke of is a fairy tale you constructed to try to explain it away.

I'm not too big on shooters either, love TOB and Stalker but that's about it for me this gen. But there has been plenty of great RPGs like ME, NWN2, G3, The Witcher. Few good racing games like DiRT, Race07. Plenty of strategy like SOASE and GalCiv2 and dozens of other less shooter-centric titles. So I can't really complain, tho I do notice shooters are taking over perhaps a bit too much.

But at least this and next year seem to offer a bit more variety than 07 where nearly all big titles were shooters.

I hope this ins't what this is about. If you think that all this gen has to offer is shooters then you are just hating because you can't get any of the new systems yet. Then again, I could be wrong.

I find it annoying as hell though, at how people turn their nose up at this generation of consoles when there has never ever in the history of gaming been this diverse a selection of games and platforms.

OPEN YOUR EYES.

Out of the the PS3, 360, PC Wii, DS, PSP, XBLA, Virtual Console and PSN the only thing you can find of worth is shooters?
