It makes sense. One reason for Windows dominance was support for other systems. A shift to unify the experience is going to have the most impactful shift.

This has been the rumor and I even had a section on this in the thread about Xbox native development ending

Without Steam they would be missing a lot of games and it would be pointless to try and add PC support but still be incompatible with many PC games.

Sounds promising, but I have many questions... we'll see how it plays out.

Are you one of those people who bites their controller a lot? Raging at perceived cheating in every game. You need to chill mate. Free online is so much better than paid internet it's not even an argument, stop trying to validate points no one agrees with.

Steam on Xbox means most of Sonys relravent games will be available on Xbox.

If true...

On the positive side, Steam would finally give Xbox its first killer app in a long time.

On the negative side, Steam could hurt their own rival Game Pass service.

What would this even entail? Getting all of the versions of binaries distributed through Steam and Epic and GoG and other stores on a whitelist?

Be honest mate, you know mp on PC is riddled with aimbots, wall hacks software etc. So it has to be free as no one in their right mind would pay money for it.

PC gaming is supposed to be dead and now Xbox is transitioning to being a PC so the poor lad is hurting by this reality. He dedicated his life to Sega and they failed and he dedicated his life to Xbox hoping they will be the next Sega, in some ways they are.😂

@last_lap: Personally I stick to console MP and disable cross play because of that and it's a much better experience. It's probably part of why in tournaments they try to use the console or arcade versions of games.

So much for all the anti-cheat software out there. It doesn't seem to do a whole lot. The PC as an open platform is a big strength because it gives the user great power. But also it means it's more difficult to lock down because of what people are able to do with it. If they could stop herms from doing what they want on the platform, they would be upset. We've seen that with the Microsoft Store versions of games that prevent people from modding them.

Maybe they will try to lock down the PC platform this way, maybe that's why they are pushing TPM 2.0 so hard. But if they do this it will mean more restrictions for herms, and I don't know how they will react to having less control over their own hardware and software.

It's free from money sure, I never argued it wasn't, but it's littered with cheaters who are using all sorts of cheats, so your experience is hampered and you cant compete. Just because YOU don't play mp doesn't mean it's not happening.

Saying that epidemic of cheaters is a "miniscule problem" on PC is again just you defending PC and for what as you don't use it 🤦‍♂️

PC's mp is free because it would be fraudulent to charge for it considering the amount of people cheating that platform. People trying to say its better on PC because its free is being disingenuous. The saying you get what you paid for is an excellent example here.

I saw this video about 6 months ago from all the top CoD players (they were all on PC) where their home streams of CoD gameplay on PC showing them being godly running around shooting everyone without breaking a sweat, and they got invited to esports tournaments where these same players were hiding in water, back of trucks, corner of rooms etc waiting for people walk across their crosshairs to shoot them, and you guessed it they were smoked, and then got back on their livestreams complaining their mouses and seats etc were different to theirs hence why they didn't play so well. Obvious cheaters, but yeah hermits here would have you believe that cheating is a miniscule problem🤦‍♂️

I encourage anyone playing mp to turn crossplay off for at least PC gamers.

But if you use your Xbox to buy a game through Steam that would mean MS would have to get a fee because you're using a console to access it. Can't see the guy who has a PC monopoly sharing his piece of the pie with MS, and if there isn't a fee can't see MS allowing it.

I guess that means no more paying online and that's a big "if" that is.

I am happy every time a game loses its exclusivity status and comes to multiple platforms. Doubly so if it supports cross-platform multiplayer (as it should).

@mrbojangles25: Games on console should not be crossplatform with PC as there are way too many Hermits using all sorts of cheats from aimbot to wall hacks and so on.

Keep the cheaters cheating each other, leave console gamers to fight it out fairly with one another.

out of curiosity, what competitive multiplayer games are you playing these days where you are truly concerned about "cheaters"?..

I don't know about Last_Lap but I only play Halo: Infinite's MP on the weekend, I don't run across cheaters, just good players and that's about it. Most online/competitive multiplayer have "Anti-Cheat Devices" to detect someone is cheating and it does give players peace of mind. Last gen, it was a problem but nowadays, cheaters are hardly present as anti-cheat devices becoming more and more good on it. Now if we were talking about KB/M vs controller well...it's fair game.

I don't play online as much as I used to, but I don't run into any cheating in any amount that makes it frustrating for me to play. This is includes fairly popular games like CoD, Diablo, WoW, Counter-Strike, Battlefield, etc. Only thing that really annoys me is gold sellers and services in MMO's, but that's more rule-breaking than outright cheating that ruins my experience.

If PC gaming isn't dying, it's bad for the industry because we pirate...if we're not pirating, we're bad because we only play old games...if we aren't playing old games, it's bad for the community because we cheat.
