Don't get ahead of yourself, Tears of the Kingdom is in the lead for GOTY by a landslide.

Starfield is not even out yet, so we can't tell yet what kind of opponent it will be to TotK. We do know that Bethesda has a bumpy track-record, however.

Best of luck to Starfield, because TotK will be a tough one to beat.

Expecting it to be mediocre, but the initial previews did seem better than past Bethesda games, so we'll see. I'll be giving it a go on gamepass with the beastly 4090 and most likely that DLSS mod once it hits.

High-end PC/full purchase for me. Though after hearing Bethesda is partnering with AMD which was stupid of them to do, I'm now gonna wait for PC reviews before I actually buy it. Still, Starfield is still on my purchase radar but I don't like what AMD is doing with their sponsoring BS.

Going to be an absolute mess for a loooong time. So, purchase on PC for me, but who knows when.

There is no buz surrounding totk like botw had, so the chances of Starfield getting goty is very high.

Gamepass on PC with my trusty 3070. Is that considered mid-tier now? I really prefer to play this with kb/m (maybe gamepad for the ship sections). I am not really into modding, so that is not a factor.

As soon as I finish the game I plan to cancel gamepass. If it is really incredible I may buy it again on Steam on sale some day.

On PC, giving 3-4 months for mods to fix/improve the game.

I'll wait several months until it's patched, the price goes down and a bunch of mods are made to improve the shitty gameplay.

Well it's the biggest game of the year unless you can think of a game with more than 1000 planets,and some people are claiming GOTY,GOTD or GOAT,the deepdive has converted sceptics,turned fence sitter into onboard day one players and defiantly playing into give that Game NOW like myself.but i'm also expecting bugs and early WTF'ery,not cyberpunk-esq but bethesda-esq

You also have FF16, Jedi Survivor, RE4 Remake, Diablo 4, and possibly Spider-Man 2. Not saying Starfield doesn't have a shot at being GOTY contender but it must prove itself that it is worthy of being GOTY in gamer's eye's if it's a solid good launch that is. First impression is last impression and that goes for Starfield's case.

It all sounds ambitious on paper, but it stands unproven whether or not it's going to be well-executed.

A game like TotK has already been proven, because it's already out.

I want Starfield to be everything it sets out to be, but I'm going to have to hold my breath until it comes out.

After the deep dive mine like a hell of a lot of peoples expectations went through the roof,and rightly so if they deliver,minor bugs dont bother me,i expect them,and if i'm honest all the games you list above had problems on one system or another,I expect Spiderman 2 to have them at launch though i feel Starfield may get scrutinised more

Starfield looks too good to be true. looking absolutely fantastic.

initial reveal was bad but recent reveal make me hype once again.

It's a bethesda game so it will be bugged to buggery at launch. I'm also going to leave some time for valve to get proton sorted for it.

I'll probably wait 6 months to a year before playing it. There will probably be some GOTY version of it or something.

I'll have CP2077 to keep me entertained (amongst many other games). Seems to be fairly well patched up now. Hopefully the expansion for that release is in good shape (seriously CDPR....not again..)

High End PC (4080, 7800X3D, 32GB DDR5, NVME Gen4). Not a fan of low fps, and the PC modding should be nuts on this game.

TC must be on crack if he thinks this can beat Zelda for GOTY...

But it will be a strong contender for RPG of the Year. Its only competition in that category are FF16 and Baldur's Gate 3.

@dabear: it's gonna be naff I reckon...it was what sold me on it really but low expectations on the functionality etc. If it feels like it's from the game I am happy.

Nah. 4 is the only one I've played. But I know 1,2 and NV are all better games than 4 and have probably said that sometime, maybe that's what gave you that idea.

Fallout 3 ain't a bad game either. Main story is bad, but plenty of good, well written side quests. Going from that to Fallout 4 was a mega downgrade in writing.

My friend and I keep switching our consoles back and forth. He is a big Halo fanboy. I will play it on Xbox X, but to be honest game is to overhyped and dose not look that interested to me right now lost all interest in it after the showcase looks more like Mass Effect

Now before anyone says it's not going to win GOTY because Zelda, you must realise that the Kojima lovers (forget his name) GOTY awards show is not the only awards in town as all major (and plenty who are not) gaming sites throw out GOTY awards also.

High end PC full purchase for me. I'll still most likely wait awhile for a sale so patches and most importantly, Mods go into full swing, but it looks great. I noticed gamepass games tend to drop price fairly quickly so I'm curious to see if a game with legs like this will stand firm in price for a long time or if it will drop quickly as soon as the hype moves onto the next game release.

I know it's on Game Pass (which I have), but I'll probably buy it on Steam since I tend to really enjoy their open-world games.

Not sure how mod support is on Game Pass, but I know it's good on Steam. We will see, I know Bethesda has been trying to do their own built-in mod workshops but I haven't had great success with those (like in Fallout 4 or Skyrim special edition).

I tried modding Fallout 76 on Gamepass, and hooo boy, it was a freaking hassle. And that was just Reshade.

I'm thinking of buying Starfield on Steam just for that mod support alone.

Mod support for PC/Game Pass is BS. When it comes to Bethesda games, always buy them on Steam if you want full access mods.

I mean you didn't specify that. If Starfield ends up with ME1 story (of course it won't, lets be real) and gameplay of ME2, that's a banger right there.
