Rumor: Next Generation Portable Standard and 3G Model Price

The first thing people always want to ask "How much does it cost?" since the Next Generation Portable announced. Finally, we received about the price information of the Next Generation Portable (NGP) from an interview with a insider.

There will be two different models (Standard Model and 3G Model) for the Next Generation Portable. The standard model will have a price list between$250 to $280. For the model with 3G support, players will able to play online in anywhere over the wireless network, as long as you subscribed with a provider. The price list will be between $320 to $350. The 3G version will also come with some extra pre-loaded applications which will make use of the 3G capabilities such as Augmented Reality.

Why would Augmented Reality require 3G connectivity. :?

I think I'll stick with the standard model, especially at the 250 price point. The 3g model seems like it will cost more and have a monthly fee. Not really feeling that.

I buy a portable system to play portable games, I play portable games on a portable system that costs portable prices.
that means under 200 dollars, 150 dollars is preferable.

The system is supposedly coming out around the holidays. I wont believe any rumor regarding price until after E3.

So yeah, other than the price being simply too good to be true, I doubt it.

On-topic: 250 is a great price to start off.

I understand that Sony is already biting it on the price, but having to pay monthly for a 3G subscription is rough, I doubt that one will sell well. 3G doesn't work that great for online gaming, and that's the only thing I'd really use it for, the normal one is rather enticing

Uses GPS technology rather than image recognition technology. Even if it were to use image recognition technology, you'd need internet connectivity. I'm just guessing.

And it's certainly possible. I'm relatively certain that the cost of what it took to make a PSP back at its launch is less than the cost of what it will take to make an NGP at its launch.

Still doubt it. I say $300 at the very least, which isnt bad.

For it's power in that size, that's a reasonable price to me for the Standard version.

I can understand that, although I consider portables to be equal with consoles, so it's like buying another console for me. Seems pretty good considering its power and all the features. But we need to see how the library holds up of course.

The numbers seem too low and are too early. Sony is just waiting for the price of the technology to drop, so it's likely that they're waiting out most of the year (or at least until E3) until they even decide on price.
