Is it safe to say Doom Eternal will be the single best game of 2019?

Hello friends,

so 2019 is looking best year this decade with Metro released and even though i dont like RE2 much but many people like it so it count, same a DMC5. sekrio is just released and will play it later. theres some goodies coming like Rage 2, Dying light 2. even shenmue 3.

but after watching both, quakecon gameplay and new gameplay on stadia, i came to conclusion that it will be the best game of 2019. i mean its a sequel to best game of this generation by very large margin. and i notice in gameplay that they remove arena lockdown in a favor of waste open enviroment. and having set on earth with entirely new engine.

everything in this game looks perfect, i mean game is far from released and has no release date yet game looks like its finished and ready to release anytime soon.

id software is greatest comeback of this generation.

will any game be better than this game in 2019? or this game will remain king? lets discuss

Crackdown 3 blows it away. As its getting updates in 2019, I'd defo say it's a better game than Doom in 2019. Heck, there's not even any cars in doom.

No, it won't even be the best FPS. Respawn is releasing a new FPS and the next Half Life is likely launching this year.

it's worth noting that there is no official release date for eternal yet. there's speculation it'll be late december last i saw, so it may not even make the cut for 2019.

if ghosts of tsushima, death stranding and tlou 2 get release dates this year then it'll be much tougher to make top three.

then there's games like total war three kingdoms, anno 1800 and the outer worlds which could all be up there. and, as unlikely as it seems, you never know, gears 5 may be a return to form for the series and stake a claim for top three. plus sekiro is scoring very high at the minute.

if id can fix the repetitive nature of doom 2016 and open the game up so it's not just funnelling you from one arena to another then it stands a good chance because the mechanics are rock solid. if they can add some new dimension to the gameplay - think titanfall 2 wall running (or even controlling the titan) - then its chances are even better.

so to answer the thread title, no it's not safe to make any predictions about goty until december 31st.

it's interesting that despite being a metro die hard and evangelising about how it's an amazing experience that rivals stalker as one of the all time great shooters every opportunity he gets, ghosts4ever has already written it off as goty, and decided that a game we don't know an awful lot about and won't be out until the end of the year is already better than it

so FPS need to go back to last gen COD style with having insane amount of cutscene? 2 weapon limit? regen health and cover system? no thanks. these kind of FPS are what industry need.

Yes they are. Respawn already announced they are releasing a new FPS IP for 2019. They have job listings for this too, and it's not Apex Legends.

The Half Life 2 prequel will release this year most likely (or 2020), not Half Life 3.

I'm really looking forward to Doom Eternal though.

It's been confirmed you can't shoot out lights in Doom so... 6/10.

Never stop believing. I played a Starship Troopers wave shooter mod for HL2 a few months ago that was infinitely more fun than DOOM 2016 wave shooter was.

There's no denying doom has the fps mechanics to be great and will be great but in terms of goty TLOU 2 has all the hype.

theres few and far problem with Doom 2016 as arena lockdown but it wont be in Eternal. however the gameplay mechanics are far far above any FPS ever made. gameplaywise Doom 2016 blow HL2 out of water and i consider HL2 as one of the all time best.

Doom will be in the Top 5 or maybe Top 3. I doubt it will be GOTY, as the genre is not for everybody.

winning GOTY awards at TGA is not achievement. its popularity contest. last time FPS won was in 2016 Overwatch and it was trash.
