Has been playing it non-stop the whole week. This game is a definition of an old school video game with a fun and varied gameplay. It mixes so many genres, it's really hard to define it.

If someone asks me what genre this game is, I will say it's a open-world first-person Metrodvania, Resident Evil 7/Village/Hitman in a Indiana Jones skin, a big tribute/ fan love letter to Indiana Jones movies, an RPG with Call of Duty-like flashy on-rail set pieces. Tge cinematic quality of these set peices can shame Call of Duty and many 3 AAA releases. Story-wise, it's the best Indiana Jones movie since the original trillogy.

Aka, this game is an absolute GOTY and must have.

I’ve downloaded it on Gamepass but haven’t had the opportunity yet to play it. It’s really that good?

Playing it right now and am very much enjoying it so far. It’s quintessentially Indiana Jones. I may feel differently after I finish it but right now Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is my 2024 GotY.

@brimmul777: It's a very good game. It's not absolutely perfect by any means. The combat is rough around edges. The shooting is rough around edges. But the characters are endearing, the dialogs and scenes are full of old school wit, comedy and adventure. You know some movies/book are described as feel-good. This is a feel-good videogame. It scratches that itch when you want to play an adventure that it's not too complex but also entertaining, varied and fun. Very few games can be all that at the same time in right proportion. But this game is. 🙂

It's way better than whatever Disney put out, that's for sure. The Great Circle is what Dial of Destiny should have been! A video game company that does it right over its movie counterpart should tell you something.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is sitting at number 3 spot within my top 10 games of 2024.

There is no point in trying to change your mind because your own personal GOTY is the only one that matters.

Hub area 1&2 are some of the best parts I've ever played. They remind me of Arkane design: intricate level design, play your own way, thousands of ways to reach any objective, levels that loop in on themselves.

The later part, hub area 3 is still cool and it reminds me a lot of Far Cry (2)

But by the end I had unlocked a skill that made the game seemingly too easy, seeing as how I didn't need a melee weapon anymore to knock enemies unconscious and I could just do it with my bare hands (I think the skill was called Bear Hands)

But this for me removed half the fun out of the game, scouring for weapons to use and using them until you broke them.

but I do realize how far along sony is with motion capture compared to xbox studios.

there faces are stiff compared o sony games.

but I do love this game.

I am 12 h in and I agree with you! I was very sceptical based on trailers. I thought it would be a simple ”movie” game. I was completely wrong.

I wouldn’t say the gameplay is deep, but the level design is extremely good 👌. It’s a true joy to explore these areas!

On top of that they nailed the tone of the game! The characters are all fantastic and the right level of over the top. Acting is great across the board.

If I would describe this game in one word it would be: ”entertaining”. And that is exactly what I wanted 😃!

its got its charms, given how good a job they do of creating an authentic feeling indy adventure, but strip away all that superficial stuff and you're left with a game with clunky, bog standard mechanics and full of ubisoft style busy work side quests. if youre a person ok with that formula and that kind of presentation over gameplay / substance style, then i can see why you'd enjoy it

It is a first-person game and they are rubbish by default.

I maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards them and feel I am quite right to.

Talk about an immersive Indy adventure that looks and sounds and feels like something out of the 1980's! Right now, I just started the second level past the beginning hub, and it has all the panache of what Indy was like before Disney molested the franchise into poppycock.

A few things about the game need comments. Content. The amount of content is huge and not the typical junk padding we are accustomed to seeing in games. The map and quest/adventures get quite cluttered on the subscreen and tracking can be odd at times. Are there boss fights? Traditional boss fights? I fought someone whom I thought would fall into the category, but I am not positive.

I thought the game would end up delayed until next year!

They do a good job too allowing you to revisit previous areas to get missed stuff or accessing stuff you couldn't get when you gain new abilities. So there's never really an urgency to feel you have to do something particularly or miss out on that run.

Played it for an hour.

And it's good.

But...

...it's still a movie game. And I don't mean that in the sense that it's based on a movie; I mean it in the sense that it plays like TLOU and its ilk.

I hope people enjoy it, and I will get around to it eventually, but it's not really my type of game.

At least it's first-person and more immersive as a result; thank god for small miracles, right?

Still, wish they got rid of most of the cutscenes and just did what Half-Life managed to do more than two decades ago and just keep all the cinematic moments happening on-screen, in-game in front of the player. Sad we still haven't mastered and implemented that method of narrative story telling in our games.

As I said I really like the game, but I agree with this take also.

I like the old Indiana Jones movies and this has all their charm AND it lets you smash a nazi with a guitar or a flyswatter 🤣!

But I will say the game trusts the player to figure things out more than the typical AAA game. I won't spoil anything, but some things are there for you to discover.

Another thing. I played a ton of AC: Origin. It was such a strange feeling to get back to Egypt and feel like I had already been to this place!

I already 100% it but wanna go back after taking a break to play on max difficulties for puzzles and gameplay, hopefully puzzles feel fresh and the fighting will be more challenging next time around.

There's also seemingly secret secrets that aren't part of any side quests, have nothing to offer but the amusement of finding them and solving them. Found one and solved it and wondering if there's more.

I think it was a great move making it first person. It stands out........tho the game is kinda lifeless, expecially within it's enviroments (not much going on). They prob should have toned down the visuals and improved physics and added addition objects, etc.

  • Resident Evil 2 (1998)
  • Sonic Tripe Trouble 16-bit (2022)
  • Sonic Robo Blast 2
  • Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • The Last Guardian (replayed)
  • Banjo Kazooie (replayed)
  • Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (replayed)
  • Crazy Taxi (replayed)
  • James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing (replayed)

This right here is also the kind of shit why I would never buy this game and why they have no right to complain about games being too cheap.

How much money did they spend of this when all it is a a worse version of an FMV they could have used? Or better yet, not used and do something original? I'm not paying £70 to passively watch your bad at attempt being Dreamworks.

Barely any gameplay alongside it (if you can even call it that) to justify it. Just another barely do anything sequence where wait for the game to do shit for you while passively watch.

Look at how creative the opening level of TR2 is compared to this movie slop.

Recently finished Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Excellent game, good story, fantastic voice acting and performance, enjoyable gameplay, and the exploration and puzzle solving felt rewarding. The way they handled the first person and third person perspectives worked very well for this game. Ran into a couple of minor bugs but nothing game breaking. One was fixed with a rollback to a previous save, lost about 10 minutes. The other simply restarted the last checkpoint. I’ll definitely go back and finish the side stuff in this game. I’d give it a 9/10.

It is an extremely pretty, immersive and fun Indy-sim. It nails the feel of the classic films. It's mechanics are an enjoyable mix, but are all very shallow. I'd give it 4 stars out of 5 (or 8/10 if you prefer), great for fans of the series and those who enjoy movie games, but there's very little depth or challenge to the gameplay. Definitely not GOTY.

The opening sequence is shit, a terrible on-rails movie-tron bad CGI remake of classic film scene. It thankfully gets better after that but god damn, I nearly gave up on it in the first few mins.

@last_lap: Maybe go back and read what I said. Never mention about MS not making fun games but what really said is they need to make a game worthy to be that GOTY. Maybe just maybe Fable or Avowed mighty have a chance to hit GOTY 2025.
