So that Black Friday deal on Amazon was too good to pass by. I went ahead and ordered a Vita. I've had it for 2 days(didn't open it till today) and already I feel I have no use for it. The hardware is pretty impressive and the device itself looks great but that's the only good thing I can think of. I've downloaded many demos and I played enough of AC3: Liberation and PS Allstars. I don't see any appeal. So I guess in case if you for some reason don't want to play the superior PS3 versions of these games, you could play the dumbed down version on a tiny screen? Or if you want a dumbed down PS3 on the go? Why would anyone want that? You didn't get enough gaming while you were home?
I'm not too big on handhelds in general but I think Nintendo has it right. At least they can differentiate between what should be a handheld experience and what should be a home console experience. They're not trying to give you a mini Nintendo Wii. I guess having a massive game catelog helps out a lot too but the 3DS didn't start out like that. People thought it was going to fail earlier in its life but Nintendo got their act together within 6 months. For the Vita, it's almost been 1 year and still they can't properly give it the support it needs. The $40 games are all choppy and are usually crappy ports that look closer to a Wii game than a PS3 game. So why would anyone with a PS3 or a 360 even want a Vita?
The Vita is a minimized watered down console experience. Instead of creating its own identity it's just PS3's weaker baby brother that gets shovelware past on to it. I'll fiddle around with it some more for a week then I'll either return it or put it up for sale.
