I’m considering selling this, and am having a bit of trouble finding out what the value of this would be. It’s a regular edition Dreamcast, I’ve never opened the tab or the box or anything. Fully shrink wrapped just like it came from the factory.

Looking on eBay I only saw one listed, and it was at $1500. Does anybody know what I can get? It’s in very good condition, although the box edges are a little bit worn here and there.

As someone who collects old consoles, I'd personally pay no more than $500

A few years ago, i saw one in a store selling for around $500 while the used ones were in the $100-$200 range, It remained unsold for like 2 years, after that i stopped going that way so its fate is unknown to me.

I need some more info. Is it a PAL or NTSC or even NTSCJ console, as the region it's from does change the value.

Also are we what are we talking here USD, Pound, Euro, AUD etc.

I have a Dreamcast with 90 games and deal on Ebay a LOT when it comes to retro. As for the $1,500, well that's overpriced unless it's some sort of limited-edition console.

Wow that's crazy, but understandable since it's unopend.

But I heard the Analogue 3D would be in the same ballpark and that's a brand new retro console that also accepts HDMI.

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it; I don't think you're going to get a concrete answer here.

A nice opened dreamcast is like $100 plus or minus a few dollars. So a new one sealed in box realistically may only be worth like a few hundred more. The value is that it stays sealed, so you'll have to find a buyer that never wants it opened, maybe a sealed game collector for Dreamcast?

Plus, you need to figure out if it was a 9/9/99 release model, I know those are sought after a little more.

Ebay it or go to a retro gaming convention and put it up for auction

Keep it for 10 more years and then try and see the prices.

I bought it in CA back in the year of release at an EB Games, fully with the intention of using it but something happened with my original working one that I didn't need to so I shoved it into storage and completely forgot about it. It's the North American model, whatever that is (NTSC?). Not a limited edition version, just regular. USD.

Ok, so are you selling it with games, accessories etc?

Do you want to just sell it at a buy it now price and happy to wait weeks/months possibly years for it to sell or are you happy putting it up for auction and just see how high the bids go and take whatever you get for it?

If it were mine, I would start the bidding at $500 USD since it's a NTSC version, but I would put at least 1 game with it if you have any.

Sincerely not sure what you can get for it or what the best channel for selling it would be, it will probably go fast on eBay but you might not get top dollar.

If it were mine, I totally wouldn't sell it. I'd put it in a display case of some sort for sure.

Check this out for instance, it's a graded DreamCast going for 8K.

@MirkoS77: I'd put it up on ebay for around $12,000, with a Buy it now and Best offer option.

No accessories, just the system. I have a bunch of games but want to hold onto them. Probably gonna end up boxing it up with some bubble wrap and keep it. I was hoping for more than $500 to be honest. $1k I might’ve been tempted.

It’s neat to have though. I sold a mint copy of Magic Knight Rayearth for the Saturn a while ago, got quite a bit more than $500 for that one.

@MirkoS77: You could put it on Ebay for something like $1250 and you might get lucky and sell it.

Yeah, it's a 25 year old worthless consumer electronics product, only valuable to the folks who collect this stuff. I'm not sure why anyone would want it Take the first offer over what you paid.

@MirkoS77: looking online I see a good amount listed for $1000-$1200 but could take a while to sell if others are listing thiers at that range.

I bet if you listed it $700-$800 someone would buy it fairly quickly

Does it come in original plastic or seals? If not it will be hard to prove, it was never opened. if you can prove the box was never opened, then you can get 700+. If not, 300-400$. The used Dreamcast consoles are not very expensive. Plus, just because it's an seal box, doesn't mean the console still works. It still might need to be opened and capacitors renewed.

Put a price of $5000 OBO on Ebay. Let someone talk you down to 3500 so they feel like they got a deal.

there's a sold listing on Ebay for over $1,100 for a sealed Dreamcast. So list it for something around that price.

What I don't get is why someone would pay so much for it? Yes, it's a un-opened Dreamcast which is way cool. However, it could still be faulty.

Un-opened and unused hardware isn't stuck in a time vacuum, never to get old and degrade just because they haven't been turned on.

I don’t get the overall negative vibes in this thread. He’s asking for advice on something I feel he should ask about.

It’s really nice that he found an unopened Dreamcast. That’s like super rare.

TC, put it on eBay for $900 auction, and buy it now for $1500. Someone who’s passionate about the Dreamcast is bound to make a bid.

Put it for a 10 day auction, rather than 7, I would say.

If it doesn’t get sold, it gets posted again, for free. Also you can see how many viewers saw your eBay page. That tells you if people are interested in the Dreamcast, or not.

Nice, appreciate the advice. This is what I would do were I to sell it, which I’m still wavering on. I usually just do a ‘buy now’ on eBay, don’t auction, but perhaps worth a shot this time.

@effinae: it doesn’t matter if you see unopened Dreamcast consoles listed for $1,000. No one is paying $500 for that garbage.
