I don't care if you like Dennis Dyack or not, I just want this game to happen because gamers deserve it. I believe that Dyack isn't entirely a bad guy and the guys from Silicon Knights had it hard with Epic Games lawsuit so they were doing anything to save their face. I enjoyed Too Human, the only major flaw was the imbalance resulting from level scaling of opponents. I know they did one stinker after it but it was also a some comic book licensed game and the majority of them were doing demo for Eternal Darkness 2 so that some publisher would pick it up. I really want this game to happen and I want it to be good. And I want it to succeed so that the industry would leave Dyack alone.

Anyway, here's the story, it's taken from Eurogamer:

Eternal Darkness director Denis Dyack has founded a new entertainment studio and announced that he is returning to his unsuccessful Kickstarter candidate Shadow of the Eternals. The game - planned as a spiritual successor to his cult GameCube hit - will now be developed as a multi-media property, Dyack has toldIGN.Dyack's new studio Quantum Entanglement Entertainment (QE2 for short) has been set up to develop franchises that can be games, movies and TV shows. The first of which will be Shadow of the Eternals, which Dyack said was now back in active development."(We're) looking at it from a film and television side," Dyack explained. "We've got more going on that we're just not ready to talk about yet."Dyack said that he was keen to explore the possibilities that occur when a developer merges games with film and television - a point he calls "the singularity".He also expressed interest in involving a project's community in its development - even to the extent that fans could submit their own scripts or get involved on a TV project's set."A lot of the television that you're seeing is really bleedinginto a lot of the things that we do in video games," Dyackexplained. "A lot of the things that you see in film are bleeding into a lot of the things that we do in video games."I wanted to do something that was a lot more than just video games."QE2 has been set up with Dyack as chief creative officier. He'll also have help from former Canadian Broadcasting Corporation exec Jonathan Soon-Shiong as the company's new CEO.Dyack's last studio, Precursor Games, formally disbandedin September following two unsuccessful crowd-funding attempts for Shadow of the Eternals.

Eternal darkness was one of the best games of gen 6, easily... I want a sequel, but I don't want it half assed.

If you are talking about Shadow of the Eternals , then it is spiritual successor , not a sequel .

One of the better Gamecube games... it was a horror game that spanned multiple times and protagonists, and it had a great system that actively tried to make the player feel that they were losing their minds while playing it, which much like MGS with the vibrating controller in the Psychomantis fight, used the hardware in extremely creative ways. It's one of the better adult oriented Nintendo exclusives.

This Multimedia thing sounds really weird to me, though... I don't know if I like the direction the project is taking, but I will await more info.

I remember there were a bunch of jerks who were happy when they found out his kickstarter campaigns failed. I'm glad to see it back in development. **** the haters.

Eternal Darkness had some cool ideas, but the gameplay was terrible. I'm not interested.

Maybe one of the best games on the Game Cube but not even close to one of the best games of the gen.

I don't know what's the story behind Dennis Dyack or Too Human and I don't know why gamers hate them but the 9 min. gameplay video they released earlier looked interesting. Will be keeping an eye on it.

He should just partner with Nintendo, let them fund it and be mostly in control of it, and we might actually see it.

Eternal Darkness was one of my favourite games of its gen too and it was an early gamecube game (it was out in the first 6 months after launch).

Yeah, I'm sure him and the other 5 people left at Silicon Knights will get that done anytime soon, even with a larger staff their games take way too long to develop, that's been they're MO for decades

They got shit ton of praise for Legacy of Kain, a game that took so long that the publisher Crystal Dynamic flew their own staff out to their studio to finish the game for them because Silicon Knights could do it themselves, which resulted in a burnt bridge and Crystal Dynamic not letting them develop another game in the series. Basically, the same thing happened to them as what happened between Team Bondi and Rockstar over LA Noire, except Silicon Knights didn't go under like it should have.

They couldn't get Too Human made right, took them a decade, and they sued Epic when things went to shit.

I frankly think they're overrated. They couldn't get shit done right with a full staff, with the Canadian government subsidizing them. Now they're broke, only a team of 5 and are relying on crowd source funding. However would give them money to make a game has their head on backwards.

Instead a Kickstarter should start up to buy the IP from them and have it handed over to a competent studio to work on.

It's probably been said to you numerous times, but it's a horror game published by Nintendo (and commonly said to be the first M rated game published by them, which is incorrect). Although a very well done game, the sales did not back that up as it was a failure in sales. Some people are quick to say that it was because the GameCube, like Nintendo's other consoles is too kiddy and on the wrong platform, but I doubt it. I think it's because people were too attached to what Capcom (Resident Evil) and Konami (Silent Hill) were throwing out (hell, REmake, RE Zero and RE4 at least pulled a million each on the GameCube).

I don't get how this will happen. Will it be WiiU exclusive? If Nintendo isn't involved I don't want the game. Nintendo owns patents on its gameplay elements.

I loved ED so much, and so I wouldn't want a lesser sequel. It's an episodic, lovecraftian, horror, third person shooter with a robust magic system and of course those insanity effects. If a spiritual sequel is made that only has a couple of those elements then I don't see the point.

Yeah, I'd rather have nothing than a half assed sequel.

Which I'm afraid we're gonna get. Let's face it: how many great games has he made ? And how long has it been since his last one ?

That also explains why his kickstarters failed.

Since nintendo surely looked at other games besides Wind Waker to remake on Wii U, I think they should do a remake of Eternal Darkness.

More people need to play that game.

But who to give that to? Silicon Knights is done for and, far as I'm concerned, rarely anybody in the gaming community trusts Denis Dyack for GOOD reason.

I was a Gamecube only owner during that generation. Eternal Darkness always peaked my interest but I never did play it. Am I missing something that I should look into?

I didn't believe in the success of the project the first time they tried.

I'm a huge fan of Eternal Darkness (one of my favorite games ever) but I don't think a sequel or even a spiritual successor could ever come close to the game. I certainly wouldn't spare them a single buck, but I will keep an eye on this. Curiosity is hard to shake.

Dyack is shit, and Eternal Darkness was a fluke.

Would be interested in the game if someone else was making the game instead.

Film and gaming studio? What could go wrong?
