Bayonetta Who's Fault is it for the crappy port?

http://www.lensoftruth.com/?p=17470

SEGA: Sega, was heavily criticized for the poor port when the demo was first shown at the trade shows. With Bayonetta under the gun, Sega should have stepped up their efforts to make the game a perfect port. However, the retail version suggests that Sega simply wasn't interested in saving face. The performances are almost polar. They proved that not only were they not interested in spending extra money to ensure quality, but also that they're quite fine with ripping off the public by charging the same amount for an inferior copy.

PlatinumGames: But is it just as much Platinum Games Fault as it is SEGA's? Platinum Games were obviously happy with the job SEGA had done to port their game across to the PS3, otherwise they surely would have not released it, they have also stated that they have overseen both versions back in September. However Platinum Games continued silence over the matter is very disconcerting & ultimately detrimental to their name as an independent games developer. http://forums.platinumgames.com/showthread.php?t=649&page=34

Sony: Sony should have stepped in for quality control. You can only blame the publishers for so long before you start wondering why a company would allow for a poor port to be on their console. It's a simple concept know as quality control.

Comparisons

Ps3: Unstable 30FPS. Xbox 360: 60FPS

Ps3: 42% of torn frames. Xbox 360: 13% of torn frames

Ps3: Washed Graphics. Xbox 360: More Sharp colourful

Ps3: No install option. Xbox 360: Install

Ps3: Load times on everything including pause and Items. Xbox 360: 1/3 the load times between stages no load times on items or pause.

Platinum had nothing to do with the actual porting job and Sega is the company controlling the IP and doing the port. Pretty obvious Sega is at fault.

PG have nothing to say about it. They are a small dev team with limited budget. Sega is a big publisher, they have the final word on everything related to it. It's Sega's and Sony's fault. Mainly Sega's.

Quick question, for those saying Sony, how is it Sony's fault? They literally stepped in during the last month of development. It takes a long time to fix almost completely broken code.

Not a clue, actually. I just know Sega is the company that dictates everything on the game, so they'd be to blame.

I think is SEGA's fault, they should have fix the little problems like load times, for me that is the major issue.

it is sony's job to ensure that the game meets the Technical standards of the hardware. Basically before a game goes gold, it has to be submitted to Sony and there TSAs/QA department. While the game mechanics are handled by the developers QA, sony or ms or nintendo are the ones responsible for ensuring that the game functions properly by following specific guidelines that developers have to meet to release a game on the system. Keep in mind that unlike MIcrosoft, Sony has a first party dev that will be releasing a huge competitor to Bayonetta and it is entirely possible that Sony just didn't put a whole lot of effort when looking at the submission build as they didn't care how it performed, so long as it was not good enough to compete with God of War 3. While sure it is the developers fault that the game doesn't play the way it should, it is the hardware manufacturers job to make sure the game runs properly. More often than not they don't give a crap if the game is a no name. But if it is a big named title and a game is lagging behind in submission time on one system while met the requirements on another system, just to ensure that the game releases simultaneously, they will ignore failing the submission to ensure that they have the same shelf time.

The majority of the fault falls on Sega for doing a lousy job, followed by Platinum for not caring enough about how their game was ported and then Sony for not requiring enough quality on the final product.

Sega only. Platinum games developed the game as a 360 exclusive and since Sega was the publisher who wanted to make more money that did a badly rush port of it. The only part Sony played in all of this was allowing Sega to release Bayonetta on the PS3, so, IMO they can't be to blame. I would only blame Sony if the game was 1st / 2nd party or funded by them.

Exactly, it's Sega fault. Definitely not Platinum Games and Sony saw it as an chance to take a 360 Exclusive away. Sega has worked on the PS3 before as they make quite a few exclusives for it Valkyria Chronicles and the Yakuza Series (3 games on the PS3 so far). Sega just rushed it out the door and it worked people are still buying the PS3 version even though it's a badly rushed port.

It's Sega's fault. They forced the port, they developed the port, they didn't fix the problems they made. Platnium Games has no fault, and you can't really blame Sony when Sega was forcing the release.

It's all 3 companies faults.

1) It's SEGA fault for giving it to a developer who obviously wasn't skill enough on the PS3 hardware to successfully port the game properly. If they were going to giving it to a developer, they should have handed it over to Naughty Dog or Isomniac Games to port. Besides Sony, these are really the only 2 developers that know the in and outs of the PS3 like the back of their hands. SEGA should have handed it off to a more skilled developers on the PS3.

2) It's Platinum Games fault for not being honest with SEGA and Sony about porting the game. They obviously didn't have the knowledge to port the game adequately to match the Xbox 360 version. They thought they could, but like many other developers who think the same, they failed miserably. They shouldn't have even taken the task on. It was obvious that they cared more about the pay day then the actually quality of the game. Still, they really did have the time either to get the job done. So it may not total be their fault.

3) It's Sony's fault for creating an over priced technology challenge gaming console where developers need over a year to understand the hardware and software architecture. I know Sony want to be innovative and different from the competition, but sometime they go overboard. This was one of those times. Sony also approved the final product, which is why they also get the blame. Did anyone from Sony even play this game? They probably saw the graphics and action and saw $$$$ and told their people to "Print It".

4) It's Cows fault for complaining about something they already know about. You guys already know that games ported from the XBox 360 to the PS3 will be degraded graphically and by performance. It has been happening to multiplats since the PS3 launched. Games like F.E.A.R., Orange Box, Madden, etc.. all have issues when they got ported to the PS3. So this really should be no surprise to Cows by now.

The game was an Xbox 360 exclusive, and they decided to port it very late in the game. Bad things happen when you take a game designed for one platform and stick it on another.

So who do you blame for the rest of the multiplats that are inferior on the PS3? If Sony would have had game developers in mind when they designed the PS3, it would not be an issue. The only consistant part in all of the bad ports is Sony, at some point in time you gotta look at everything and say maybe its the PS3 that is the issue.

There are tons of multi plats that don't look as good on the PS3 as they do on the 360. When are people going to realize that Sony has not used developer friendly architecture since the PSone.

kuu2
Yeah and they're all from 2007. Now a days there's really no excuses most mulit plats are parallel across the board with the Ps3 coming out on top occasionally ie Darksiders which had extensive screen tearing that wasn't on the Ps3 but is getting patched as we speak. Funny that Bayonetta is not when it would be just as easy to make a install patch to at least help the loading times.

while i agree that the PS3 tech is difficult to deal with, it's becoming more and more understood, almost all the multiplatform games run very well and smooth on the PS3 despite being inferior to the x360's , when the game is so screwed up, it has to be something with the dev. , dun you think???

A little bit of plat since they should of just said no to brining it to the PS3 if they felt they wouldint be abel to offer the same quality and more on sega for giving us such a bad port. I already know lems are going to come in to say sony cause they suck and so forth(looks at poll). Its already been shown that the differences in PS3&360 games arent night and day anymore. Its very little difference now and days. Bayonetta is just one of the rare night and day cases. I would think if sega the ones who made VC and the yakuza games would be abel to give ps3 owners a good port job,but I guess I was wrong.

Platinum games didn't do the port, they completed the game on the360 and then handed the code over to Sega since they wanted it on the PS3 so bad,who gave it to one of their teams to port. Go to the Platinum Games Forum and actually find out what happened.

Although I agree that Sony is the least to blame for the bad port they aren't completely without fault, they could of at least stepped in and told Sega they gave the Ps3 a hard drive for a reason.

Uh, they did step in... but they could only do so much when they had the release date at hand and the publisher wouldn't push the PS3 version release date a bit further in order to fix the port.

So all in all, it's Sega's fault.

Exactly, there is no excuse for skimming of the PS3 version of a game when the 2 systems are pretty much neck-and-neck in sales.

The devs: I could, see this happening in 07, but this is 2010 guys. Maybe if they put more time and effort in the PS3 version it wouldn't be a crappy port.clubsammich91

it felt like the dev. didn't want to deal with the PS3 in anyway , very sad, the game lost good potential sales on the PS3.

Exactly, there is no excuse for skimming of the PS3 version of a game when the 2 systems are pretty much neck-and-neck in sales.

According to VGChartz thanks to Japan the PS3 version of Bayonetta is ahead of the 360 version. Hopefully for the next entry in the series Sega will handle it better.

The game was an Xbox 360 exclusive, and they decided to port it very late in the game. Bad things happen when you take a game designed for one platform and stick it on another.

any link, source ????

Third paragraph.

they didn't say it's an exclusive, they used the x360 as the lead platform all the way and then handled the PS3 version to Sega, in a way it's exclusivly developed for the x360 by P. games, i wonder why they didn't try with the PS3.

Sega, Platinum Games didn't even want a PS3 version to begin with. BTW is the PS3 version really that bad? Everyone makes it seem like you can't even play the game.

Platinum games didn't do the port, they completed the game on the360 and then handed the code over to Sega since they wanted it on the PS3 so bad,who gave it to one of their teams to port. Go to the Platinum Games Forum and actually find out what happened.

Ok, I had it backwards. I thought SEGA created the game. SEGA should know better then. They've been programming on the XBox 360 for awhile now. They probably just did a rush job. They could have definitely made the game as good. Time was probably a factor I bet.
