While I believe there is significant discrimination that goes on in the world, there is nothing inherently wrong with being white and one shouldn't feel like they need to be "less white".
Also, does this imply we can be "more white" or "too white"? And maybe Coke should be more focused on stopping diabetes and heart disease, two things that hit the African-American demographic especially hard.
I thought this little bit was priceless:
However, on social networks they released some of the slides used in the seminar and the concepts presented left many speechless.
In one of the images you can read: “To be less white is: to be less oppressive, to be less arrogant, to be less trusting, to be less defensive, to be less ignorant, to be more humble, to listen, to believe. , break with apathy and break with white solidarity ” .
Another says that "in the United States and other Western nations, whites are socialized to feel that they are inherently superior because they are white ." And they finish with an invitation: "Try to be less white ."
Awww my feelings are hurt, but I guess that is what my privelage as a cis white male affords me. Maybe I should check that. And I certainly don't know any non-white people that are arrogant, apathetic, defensive, ignorant, and close-minded. Nope. Just white folk.
*sighs*
My place of work is going through this crap as well. "Diversity" this and "Inclusion" that. It's fine in general as a philosophy that I think we should all accept, but I don't think it should be forced, and it certainly feels empty coming from a large corporation.
