Nothing like a company that makes drinks telling their white employees to Stop being white.

One of the great challenges that brands face today is to implement inclusion policies and eradicate sexist, elitist and racist practices, both in their internal operation and in the image they project. For this reason, Coca-Cola believed it was convenient for its workers to participate in an anti-racism course to learn to be “less white”.

While I believe there is significant discrimination that goes on in the world, there is nothing inherently wrong with being white and one shouldn't feel like they need to be "less white".

Also, does this imply we can be "more white" or "too white"? And maybe Coke should be more focused on stopping diabetes and heart disease, two things that hit the African-American demographic especially hard.

I thought this little bit was priceless:

However, on social networks they released some of the slides used in the seminar and the concepts presented left many speechless.

In one of the images you can read: “To be less white is: to be less oppressive, to be less arrogant, to be less trusting, to be less defensive, to be less ignorant, to be more humble, to listen, to believe. , break with apathy and break with white solidarity ” .

Another says that "in the United States and other Western nations, whites are socialized to feel that they are inherently superior because they are white ." And they finish with an invitation: "Try to be less white ."

Awww my feelings are hurt, but I guess that is what my privelage as a cis white male affords me. Maybe I should check that. And I certainly don't know any non-white people that are arrogant, apathetic, defensive, ignorant, and close-minded. Nope. Just white folk.

*sighs*

My place of work is going through this crap as well. "Diversity" this and "Inclusion" that. It's fine in general as a philosophy that I think we should all accept, but I don't think it should be forced, and it certainly feels empty coming from a large corporation.

Sad and pathetic on so many levels. Instead of a campaign to hire more non-whites, or scholarship programs or something that actually does something, they have an anti-racism course that will do nothing.

The virtue signaling of corporations are done with bottom lines in mind. In an effort to look like they care, they will still cut corners. Much like taxes, they look at it as a business expense.

Maybe they should have just replaced the word "white" with "bigoted" because I think that's what they are actually talking about.

Even if they did word it correctly, what will it actually do?

Insert black instead of white and let's see how well that would go.

Saw this on Twitter, but I'll wait a bit and see if Coca cola makes a statement on it.

Seems to be some dispute over whether or not Coca Cola execs sanctioned this or not.

I sure hope not!

Their seems to be a reoccurring theme where the actual message is very obviously good, but the people giving them come across as fanatical wack jobs.

The class is given by Robin D'Angelo who wrote a book called "White Fragility".

It's funny to me whack jobs like her actually get more work instead of being deemed a lunatic.

The reason why she continues to get employment is because diversity training courses don't have a long term effect. D'Angelo claims that means that diversity training needs to be a recurring, regular thing, but she has a financial incentive to say that. She makes millions off of saying the same things over and over.

They’d very quickly have one less employee the day they told me I must undergo such training. Of course, in their mind that would only affirm what the course teaches instead of taking responsibility for their own disgusting racism.

It’ll be a cold day in hell before I’ll ever feel ashamed or apologize for being white.

It wouldn’t be so bad if they did this in genuine animus, but to do so under the pretense they’re being righteous and for just cause makes my blood boil. This is nothing but bigotry and prejudice masquerading as virtue. Pathetic.

While I found critical theory interesting find it has no place outside of academic circles because nobody in the seminar is coming from a place where they've taken a crash course in critical theory going from Ferdinand de Sassaure's structural linguistics and the post-structuralist philosophers. In essence I can tell "whiteness" is being treated interchangeably as socially/racially/culturally hegemonic identity and values but "whiteness" really just makes it easier to say, which becomes contentious point when trying to convey it to the layman.

Well, the study says the 'effect' lasts a couple hours to a couple days, so it seems utterly pointless.

Diversity training has been around for a long time, I've taken many over the years and it just annoys the shit out of me, and it seems like everyone else I know. Everybody just rolls their eyes at it.

@vl4d_l3nin: I think in ways the companies do this more as a liability reduction checklist kind of approach, their employer insurance might require certain training to drop their rates or get them covered, so they don't get sued down the line should it be an issue. I was probably in workforce for two decades before I got my first active shooter training.

It's more that they're must doing it because they have to that leads to them to probably outsource the duties to some lowest bidder off Craigslist which leads to the (as you well put it) "eye rolling" awful training material.

Many companies though won't practice the values they present themselves as having. They want public to think they take environmentalism seriously while being excessively wasteful behind the curtain. They want their employees to notify HR should they being sexually harassed, but not do anything if the offending party is in upper management. They want their workers to believe there is merit based advancement but give it to shameless ineffectual brown-nosing toadies. Point being, while Coke stupid hopefully people don't jump to conclusion Coke got caught with a sinister ulterior motive... but the internet will happen.

You are supposed to feel ashamed and apologetic and even guilty for being white. Any type of pride or exhilaration is not permitted according to those with backwards ideals.

Remember something: It is easier blaming things on racism rather than addressing the true culprit(s).

Wow....I really don't agree with that. I mean, I can only imagine the outrage if the colors were reversed...

Instead of singling out a particular demographic, how about they just simply enforce their code of conduct? Set a standard for their employees to work by and severely punishing ANYONE they catch deviating from their rules? That seems more appropriate/fair then trying to make a race of people feel guilty about their skin color. That's not instilling equality at a work place...

Another company engages in racism. Gee, there's a shocker. Do they think shameless pandering is going to make more minorities buy their product? Because it'll in all likeliness result in just as many people avoiding them. Maybe they should just stick to doing their jobs and keep the social and political opinions nobody asked for to themselves.

Nah dude we aren't allowed to do that any more, they're forcing us to choose sides. "To be silent is to be complicit" or whatever the signs say. To which I say: only a Sith deals in absolutes! :D

I agree with you of course, I think corporations should maybe sit this once out seeing as how they are exploiters of quite literally everything the world has to offer, from natural resources to people, and it's not really their place to try and be the good guy.

But unfortunately if you sit this one out, apparently you're as huge a bigot as someone that's an actual bigot. Go figure.

So? The left have been calling those who disagree with them every ist and ism you can think up. It may work on some of the weak minded individuals desperate to fit in and don't want others to think they're some kind of -ist, but these words and labels get tossed around so much and used for every little thing that it's lost all meaning to the point most people couldn't care less if someone else thinks they're a bigoted for not agreeing with them.

The irony is that bigotry is defined as an intolerant devotion to ones own beliefs and opinions. By definition most the people throwing around the word "bigot" are actual bigots.

No it doesn't. It's easy to see by word/actions if someone is bigoted. Pointing that out doesn't mean one is a bigot. Seems an excuse.

They should be fined and forced closure for the fact they try to push racisme in the public. There is no way out racists should not be tolerated in any way or form and coke overplayed there hand here.

Anybody still supporting coke is straight up a racist themselves at this point.

The fact twitter and facebook didn't delete there message yet and the company from there profile gives you a good idea how racist those platforms also are.

It's not shocking tho, woke liberalism and racism go hand in hand.

And yet the left still tries to deny they are the party of the klan, segregation, and slavery.

Because political parties and their positions are stuck in the 1830s.

Aaw, don't tell me you're going to go with that "the parties flipped when it was most convenient for todays DNC to do so" routine.

Funny that you believe that political positions from 100+ years ago actually apply to the current political parties.

Lmfao, yeah, you are going to try to defend the racism of today's DNC by claiming they were a different party when they were pushing racism the last time. And their chosen candidate to run in the 2020 presidential election is on record as defending segregationalists, and claiming he opposed bussing so that his children wouldn't have to go to school in a "racial jungle."

Nope, same DNC it's always been.

You are just wrong...

Neither the modern democrats nor modern republicans resemble either party of old, this is a result of strong cultural shifts within the country. In fact, they have shifted so much, that the people who would vote on democrats 100 years ago would probably vote republican today, and vice versa.

vs

So no, the Democrats WERE but are no longer these things. If there is one thing to take away from this it is that ideology is extremely plastic.
