Okay, let's see if I can explain this... I have a 60gb PS3 that has worked great, but a couple of times I've started games and it's said that I didn't have enough memory available. I find this hard to believe since I don't play online and haven't downloaded anything. I do have a lot of saved game files (which I do "prune" occassionally) but definately not 60gb worth. Anyhoo, I mentioned this to a friend and he told me where to look for the system info (in system settings) and is shows me (I can't remember exactly) 8775 KB/55GB. My question is, and this is REALLY simple, is that first number how much I have available? or how much is being used? I only ask because I don't want to delete anymore old saves and with all the good games that have just come out (that I finally have time to play) I'm wondering how long that will last (in other words, do I need to go and buy a flash drive and back up some old games....)

Whew, that was only slightly more rambling than I expected!

Cheers in advance!

thats number means you have 8777kb left out of 55 gigs. 8 mb LOL wow thats not much left. go to game data and erase the game installs of games you dont play anymore. game data is in the game section on xmb. games installs are 2-4 gigs

Hmmmm... maybe I've got that wrong and it was 8775 mb... but still. I'll look at it again when I get home. Cheers!

That gives you over 8GB but that's still not a lot of room. You should be able to fit one or two games in that if you are lucky. But most likely you just have the 8 MB. What are you trying to install?

Nothing really, it's just that at times I've tried to start a new game (This was a problem when I tried to replay oblivion cuz the save files are so big I guess). But it came as a shock because I couldn't think what was taking up all that memory. But I guess I've got a lot of game data (different from saved game files yes?) from installs left over and there is nothing wrong with deleting those when I'm not playing those games right? It doesn't delete the saved files? And that game data section is right above where the saved files are? Sorry for all the silly questions, having a long day and I can't really picture it whilst at work!

You can delete game install without deleting the game save files. Even if you delete a game install with trophies, you'll keep them. And if I am thinking correctly, the game installs are right above the game saves.

I now have to delete as I go along. Only keep ones that I might go back to, but you have to be a bit ruthless.

UPDATE*

Heya! fixed it last night, deleted game dats from a bunch of stuff that I'll go back and play eventually, but don't need now and I've got plenty of memory to spare! Cheers for the advice, sorry for the obvious/oblivious question!
