For the past couple weeks, my ps3 has been acting weird when I play games. I'll be playing and the ps3 will be at the standard fan level (fairly quiet) and then all of a sudden, it cranks up to the highest level possible and stays there for a minute or 2, then goes back to the standard fan speed. However, last night, it cranked up to the highest level and I got message on the screen saying "Your PS3 is overheating, turn it off and leave it off for a minute or two." I called Sony and explained the situation; they told me to move the PS3 to a spot where it has enough ventilation.

I've moved my PS3 to a new spot, but does anybody have any other advice to give me? I do dust my PS3 about once every two weeks with a microfiber cloth. I've already paid $150 because of YLOD and don't want to go through it again.

my ps3 does that too when it gets hot outside, try vacuuming out all the vents thoroughly, also you have to play it in a cool room ( air conditioned) overheating is the main reason why it can get the YLOD. i turn on my AC and make sure the room si cold, or a put a fan towards the front vents, not the back vents.

wiping it with a cloth does nothing, the outside plastic being clean has nothing to do with the inside, you have to vacuum out all the vents, and play it in a cool air conditioned room. where do you live?

I live half an hour outside of Boston, so it can be pretty hot during the summer. I haven't installed the AC yet, but I will try to put the fan closer to my PS3. Thanks.

make sure you point it towards the front vents, the ones that are under the disc tray, people seem to never see these vents. and make sure u vacuum it out , all the dust inside leads to ylod
