Okay, I have had my 7800GS for about 5 or 6 months now, and had no problems with it.  Now in about the past month I've been having a problem.  If I run any games on higher graphic settings, during gameplay, usually about 1 minute into gameplay, my computer will make a "click" sound and about 5 seconds after I hear that sound my hole computer completely locks up.  If I play that same game at lower graphic settings I can play it forever and nothing bad happens, but once the settings are raised, it happens.

I'm not sure at all what the problem is. I've googled everything and all that I have come up with is that clicking sounds leading to computer lock ups means my HDD is failing.  I'm almost positive thats not the problem.  I am pretty sure it's something with my video card. I've got the latest drivers and have tried many other ones, it still happens.

If anyone can help, thanks.

Specs

CPU: P4 2.8Ghz w/ HT

RAM: 1GB PC3200

GPU: eVGA GeForce 7800GS 256MB AGP 8x

HDD: Maxtor 80GB

PSU: 420w

it might have something to do with the cooling. does the screen go black after the click or does it just completely shut down?

the screen doesnt go black at all, the game just freezes still and all sound stops instantly.

Ah, problem solved.  not sure y i never checked the temp of my card. it turns out it was going over the shutdown threshold. my vcard was going up to 65 C lol. deffinently not good. now i opened my case and got a giant fan blowing into it. i can play a game on highest graphic settings for 3 hours+ now and it doesnt go above 40 C. it looks pretty ghetto the way its set up... but w/e it works.
