It's a 15x17 box across the hall from the bathrooms. I've already talked to my roommate and so far we're bringing a 32'' plasma TV, both PS3 and 360, mini fridge, and soemthing to play music (althought we don't know what just yet). Clearly I'm going to bring my clothes, laptop, toiletries, and bed sheets, but what else should be there?

That's basically what I would bring. Can't really think of something else that's not specific.

Just remember, what you bring up with you has to come back. Some of my dorm mates brought tons of stuff up with them, by the end of the year they had to bring it all back with them, most of which got no use. I lived 20 minutes from home, so I didn't bring much, aside from necessities, a psp and laptop.

Trash bin

Vacuum Cleaner

Alarm clock

Air freshener - if you're anything like me when I was younger, there'll be plenty of farting contests.

Plastic spoons/forks and paper plates

Paper towels

Portable DVD player (so I don't wear out the laptop and console drives)

Can opener

Flip flops if you have a community shower. It's really really easy to catch foot fungus if you shower barefoot in a community shower. My dad still has it on all of his toes because he took dorm showers barefoot 30 years ago.

Some kind of fireproof safe (just a little box to hide check books, cash, etc. Small ones are relatively cheap at walmart). I've had three friends have things stolen by their own roommates. I've also had cash stolen from under my bed. One of my friends used one of these lock boxes to hide his porn stash >_>

Plastic silverware (cups, forks, a bowl), especially for ramen and mac n cheese

Some kind of jug/waterbottle so you don't have to drink out of a sink

AA batteries (you never realize how important they are until you don't have any)

Tv/fridge/microwave

Plug-ins because it WILL stink in there

Clothes hamper/some kind of basket to carry laundry

Posters/artwork

A lamp. The ones that clip onto things are nice for studying in bed without disturbing your roommates

Cat5 cables

tape

Well cutlery and cooking utensils are neccesities though you don't seem to have mentioned them.
A printer is always useful, a lot of places will accept coursework and such in PDFs (or atleast the place i'm going does) however you'll need one if you're printing e-tickets or if you need paper notes infront of you for a presentation ect.
CD wallets, if you're brining a bunch of games and movies it will be a hell of alot easier keeping track of where they all are and transporting them if they're in big wallets instead of individual cases.
Power strips, cat5e cables and a router, also you should really use wired ethernet as much as possible as there's no chance in getting interference from anyone else who's got wifi.
Food from home, saves you a few bucks if you don't have to buy your own food for the first few days. Also if you arrive late after the shops close then you aren't stuck without any dinner or breakfast.
Alarm clock.
Some form of external storage (flash drive, external HDD), you don't want to lose all your work if you get a virus or your HDD dies. Alternatively you could sync it to a web server then even if your laptop and all the accessories get stolen your work is still there.
Somewhere to put valuables if your room isn't supplied with a lockable compartment of some sort.

Hot plate and/or microwave, I recommend both. Bring a pot and a frying pan and a few utensils if you get the hot plate, and maybe some oven mitts. Dish soap, laundry soap & softener/dryer sheets if you use them. Everyone else's suggestions are good too, I won't repeat them all in my post because that would be irritating for you to read.

I strongly agree with these ones. (the flip flops are advised by some universities)

And a bucket of dirt!

A lot of schools actually don't allow hot plates, toasters, candles, or anything that generates a lot of heat. Check your dorm policy before bringing stuff like that, otherwise they'll charge you a big fine if they see it in your room :(

I already said this, but I'll agree for added effect. Dorm walls are gross and bland and feel like a prison cell. A lot of schools have "poster sales" on "move-in" weekend, though, so you could probably pick some up there, too.
