So the other thread went kaput, so here is a new one.

Repubs are still doing pretty damn good. I've switched to watching NY results. Cuomo wins, thank you NY voters who have no standards and no backbone.
I have seen quite a few people on the left turning away from unions while I think unions have a role to play on today's business climate. With that being said, I'm really glad Walker has been re-elected in Wisconsin and I hope Ed Schultz fucking chokes on it. Can't wait to hear his sorry ass tomorrow.
Still have my fingers crossed that Baker wins the governor race in MA.
Same. I don't have much faith in Martha Coakley. Baker seems decent enough.
Looks like Rauner is going to win in IL. I can't believe how close the KS governor's race still is.
I know! It's great.
Eat it, dems. NOW IT'S OUR TURN*!
*to get filibustered

NOPE.NOPE NOPE NOPE.

Bah.
GOP might get the governorships in Illinois, Massachusetts and Maryland. Plus Florida and Wisconsin.
Wow.
Huffington Post calls the Senate for Republicans. So yeah, that does it.

Pretty much this.
It was a pretty dominate night for the Republican Party. Looks like they'll probably end up with 9 pick-ups, pending Louisiana, which is likely to go Republican and Alaska. Meaning it looks like the Republicans will hold 54 seats while the Democrats gets 46.
@ferrari2001:
So not enough to override a filibuster or a veto. Honestly unless Republicans plan to peel off a few Democrats with compromise nothing is likely to change.
@Chrypt22:
It would be nice to run budget surpluses, but I rather doubt that Republicans will have the political will to reform social security, Medicare, or Medicaid.
Jesus, it is like you guys don't read the article I link to (don't answer that :P)
Here is some of the stuff Republicans are confident some democrats senators will support:

The fast track thing is HUGE. Since we know Obama ALREADY SUPPORTS IT but was block by HARRY REID. This would pit Obama against the Unions.
When thinking about the fast track authority think "NAFTA 2".
@Master_Live: I'm on my phone so you will have to forgive me for not reading everything, but does the article say what they will support these things in return for?

It talks about legislation that some democrats already support but that Harry Reid has blocked on the Senate by not bringing it up for a vote:
"Legislation endorsing the Keystone pipeline included Democratic Sens. Joe Donnelly (Ind.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Claire McCaskill (Mo.) and Jon Tester (Mont.) among its co-sponsors.
And a bill to repeal the medical device tax has six Democratic cosponsors, including Sens. Al Franken (Minn.), Amy Klobuchar (Minn.), Bob Casey (Pa.), Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.), Kay Hagan (N.C.) and Donnelly."

All that needs to happen... unfortunately there is the far left that that doesn't have a leg to stand on if we cut of social dependency. I would tack on tax reform... its ridiculous that the corporate tax rate is at 35%. Be pissed off at Burger King and Covidian for moving over seas... its the libs fault. There are far more effective ways than whoring out our business to the point where they go elsewhere for tax havens, all while small business that can hardly afford 35%+ gets stuck with the bill.
If people realized that if you cut the tax rate, even if its just for small / medium business, how good the economy would do no one would ever vote dem.
Even looks like Maryland will have a Republican governor and it's not even close. (Although the person I voted for didn't even get one percent of the vote as expected). All the polls showed that Anthony Brown was going to win it but I'm a little happy. I wish Democrats would stop trying to give illegals amnesty and a lot of people really despised the Dream Act.

Yea, no one expected enough gains to override the filibuster or veto though. That would have been pretty much impossible. However controlling both houses of congress is a huge change for the government in Washington. It also sets up 2 years of deliberate political maneuvering. President Obama cannot veto every bill sent his way. To do so would be political suicide and fooder the Republicans can use in the 2016 presidential elections. If the American people see one party passing bills and another party deliberately vetoing all those bills it would give a big advantage to republicans on the campaign trail. I think Obama will still be tough these next 2 years but we will see him concede on some smaller issues as not to make the Democratic party take on the mantle of stalling progress as the Republicans have had these last few years. It will be an interesting time in American politics, but you are right, I doubt any major issues will be solved.
thank god. democrats promise to help the poor but hurt them by keeping them dependent on government "programs".
"Hey look, a free monthly check for doing nothing in the amount of a minimum wage job, lets just sit on our asses and live in the projects...why work when I get free money? When do the next pair of Air Jordans come out?"

America just proved tonight that they give absolutely no shits about what or congress men and women do. They just gave the GOP a Senate majority after years of the GOP essentially stalemating most legislation...
Really disappointed in my country right now. They just encouraged some fucking AWFUL behavior...

This post indicates a misunderstanding of reality. The amount of money that people on public assistance receive is practically nothing and is far less than what one would earn through a job that pays minimum wage.

Well, I read this article, and found this section to be humorous.
"Senate Republicans want to dispel the image painted by Democrats over the past four years that they are obstructionists bent on grinding government to a halt.
They want to show they can get legislation passed after years of frustrating gridlock.
“One guy is blocking all the legislation — that’s the majority leader. If we get rid of him, then the spigot opens an we start passing legislation again,” said a Republican leadership aide, referring to Reid.
Democrats counter that Republicans are to blame for the stalemate. They say Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) intentionally blocked business with several hundred filibusters to enable GOP candidates to run against a dysfunctional institution."
