Hi everybody! (Sorry for my bad english) After a long time I finished Final Fantasy 8, I decided to replay this game.. but one thing I'm afraid is that I don't want to "loose" my good memories when I played this game at the first time... Everytime I listen to a soundtrack or music in FF8, I miss the past. It looks like that period of time and FF8 go together, and create my good memories. Therefore, if I replay, I'm afraid the memories will fade and after that I just remember FF8 by the second time playing, not the first time. I wonder if you guys have this feelings like me :) So What's your opinion about this... should I replay the game? :) Have a nice day!.

I loved Final Fantasy 8, it's like my second favourite FF game. I enjoy going back and replaying classics from time to time. Sometimes I really enjoy the trip down memory lane and sometimes not so much. I say give it a shot and replay it if you're not enjoying it then just stop.

if it's really a good game, you'll enjoy it a second time.

I'd advise against it, but maybe one way to see if it would hold up for you is to watch some playthoughs on YouTube.  That will either rekindle your interest even more or give you enough to sate your nostalgia.

Don't listen to Lukelani.

I say replay it. If you enjoyed it when you were younger you should enjoy it when you're older.

I replay all my favourite games. It makes the experience better in my opinion. If you've played a game only once, I can guarantee you that you don't remember everything about it. So thwere are still new(ish) expereinces to be had. And playing it will help you re-live the awesome experience you had when you played it the first time. Go do it.

I'll replay a game if I liked the gameplay enough. Sometimes I find that I enjoy subsequent playthroughs more than the first one due to understanding the game better in later playthroughs.

I say for got it man. I'm big on replaying games that I've beaten, even years down the road. I've even gone back and played games via an emulator from the 90s. I'll admit that at first it's hard to wrap your head around the graphics (especially if the were "cutting edge" at the time" or perhaps aspects of the game, but after a time all that initial joy will come right back :)

It really depends on the game. I usually only replay if I'm playing on a higher difficulty, or if there are choices to make in the game, something like Infamous where there's at least 2 sides to the story. The second playthrough and beyond usually isn't as enjoyable as the first time around, but there are exceptions here and there to that.

All you ever do is bash RPGs. Like that is literally the only thing I've ever seen you post. So yeah, someone who enjoys RPGs asking if they should replay a game, and you come along and say "No don't play it because I hate all RPGs" yeah I'm gonna say ignore you.

I frequently replay games. It makes the purchase worth it when you can go back and experience the story multiple times. Rockstar games are a perfect example. I've beaten GTA IV dozens of times (literally) and RDR several times too.

if its a good game that you remember then why not play it if you feel like it?

unless you played it when you were 6, then trust your memories that the said game will still hold up.

If it's a truly great game then it should be great on the following playthroughs.

To me replayability is important as I don't think something you could only bring yourself to only play once should ever be considered great. The greatest films, works of literature, and all that jazz are stuff that you can go back to again and again and celebrate that works greatness. So a truly great game should be a game worthy of a spin or 2 or 10.

Also while I think adding in replay friendly features is always welcome ultimately it always comes down to was your game actually worth playing more than once. I mean you can add new game plus all you want, but if it started losing its luster in the first play through there really is no reason to give it another go.

Replay it as many times as you want. Surely the hallmark of a good game is how many times you go back to it to play again. I've finished dark souls 5-6 times. It is the only game I wish I could erase all memory of and play it for the first time again, just to have that same feeling of how awesome it is the first time you play it.

I love re-playing games. Remember, there is a reason you are going back to re-play a game : you probably liked it the first time you played it and re-playing it can further confirm that affection or (in rare cases) you might realize that the game wasn't actually that good in the first place.

When you really love a game you can play it again and again and again and the memories never will fade, as for FF VIII, I certainly finished it 3 times and still remember how creepy it was when I walked around the abandoned Ragnarok for the first time or what I felt when Eyes On Me set in the first time etc.

Those memories will never just disappear and they won't change that easily until you force them to, that's something where at least the old FF Games really stood out.

"Ain't nobody got time for that!"

Okay, on a series note, I tend to play my games on the hardest diffuculty in order to prevent that and "IF" I do go back and replay it, it would only be for easy trophies or cooperative play. Just to many games to be played to go back and invest another playthrough.

PS - Final Fantasy VIII is awesome!

It depends. I recently started to replay Max Payne 2, one of my favourite games of all time. But after a couple of chapters I realized that the gameplay had aged terribly. I didn't feel like part of a John Woo movie anymore, but rather of some cheap b-movie. I quit because I didn't want to soil my memories. Max Payne 3 simply outclass its predecessor in gameplay. Then a couple of weeks ago I replayed Prince Of Persia Sands of Time and I still think that game is a blast, allthough a little clunky.

Some games hold up and some don't, it's hard to know without trying.

For me, even games that age bad will hold a special place in my heart. Even if it's "bad" by today's standards, I'll likely still enjoy it.

I like replaying all my games. Even some that I may have not have initially enjoyed too much, just to give them another chance. But the ones I really like, I revisit often. I've blasted through Metroid Prime around 20 times, Mass Effect, and MGS3 5-6 times each, Zelda games before Twilight Princess about the same number of times, and the platformers like DKC and SMW that I grew up on, those I've been through those countless times.

Often I find that when revisiting games I loved in the past, they don't age well. Sometimes nostalgia is best left alone. (I wish Niintendo would understand this.)

Whether or not a game is enjoyable a second, third, or more times depends on the initial aspects of a game which interest you. If the graphics are appealing, the music is likeable, or the gameplay is fun are all factors worth considering. In the topic creator's case, Final Fantasy VIII is worth replaying because it contains many good qualities. Playing a second time will not be a bad experience unless you dislike the graphical limitations of the PlayStation One.
