@jimmy_russell: i agree, good for notch, but for Microsoft i'm not too sure what this will do for them or for the minecraft community. Maybe better tools may come for modders, maybe better support for Microsoft devices, who knows. More than likely we'll see exclusive things for the xbox consoles. Time will tell my friends.
i dont care my friend
^^ This
Now we can expect a built in game crappy game on windows 9!
Now that Minecraft is out on every console (except Nintendo) and pc, why would Microsoft buy it? Kind of a bad decision for them.

Minecraft is more than a game.. it's a brand now.. a very popular brand that extends beyond the games.. Very good idea for MS.
So long as they don't limit future versions to just PC and Xbox, it's a very, very good move. Now, they get the profits on a very profitable game.

A part of me think that minecraft is pass it prime and going to be replace sooner than later.

If that ever happens, all MS needs to do is drop a 2 behind its title. I've never played the game, but I work at a library where kids come in after school and do nothing but play Minecraft. I see the same kind of potential in this game as I do in Pokemon. This is a brand that can pass from generation to generation. What MS needs to do, though, is respect the living hell out of this brand and make it thrive, something MS isn't usually known for when they acquire studios. If they let Mojang do their thing and nurture them, without the crippling restriction of exclusivity, then Minecraft will be around for years to come.

The problem is other games are taking what Minecraft does and going farther, like Everquest Landmark and look at they are doing.

Ya, but you know why minecraft is so popular and Everquest Landmark is not even close to 90% of the same number.
Minecraft is simple, easy to start and play and its modding community is just excellent, Landmark is complex, heavy on the computer (more than mc) and does not allow for the same modding. So for kids which anyone know is the majority of players in minecraft its a lot easier to pick up and go compared to Landmark or other games on the market. So saying minecraft is past its prime is like saying Lego or wow past its prime, which of course is far from the truth. Minecraft is also not that old yet, compare it to wow which is a decade old.
So Microsoft is actually not that dumb in buying Mojang and the brand, Minecraft and Mojang is a powerful brand for someone with the resources and power MS has.
Eh. Minecraft is a great game and there's nothing microsoft can do to change that. They may introduce DLC, make a mediocre sequel, whatever, but they won't touch the fundamentally great game Minecraft is *right* now. I don't care if they add DLC or anything (which I doubt they will anyway), as I will just continue playing the great game I already have. I'm even backing it up... just in case.
Seems good to me. Microsoft aquires something that has become a brand now and Notch cashes out big time.
microsoft may ruin the game and make it xbox one exclusive. Hope im wrong...
Hope they dish out tons of money into adding lots of content and updates which have been lacking... lots of new graphics updates or anything interesting. The game hasn't change much for so long, it needs some serious development, only cool stuff I ever see are made by regular people in addons.
But the price is really high, microsoft just throws money anywhere... i guess when u have a cashcow like Windows and all the other software and hardware they sell they can do pretty much anything.
Just a waste. They've done nothing to suggest they're spending $2.5B on making video games. Forza, Crackdown, Phantom Dust, Forza Horizon, that tv show game, Halo... probably not even at half a billion, let alone 2.5
It's a bit difficult to answer. It is both good and bad things about it. Minecraft was just a small project that was made for fun. It began to become popular and so it continued. It was perhaps a little too large for the few developers to keep up. It's probably best that Microsoft comes when they have the available resources to it. But I hope that they will keep the theme and don't change to much.
