Technically yes. I bought Knights of the Old Republic about a half hour before I bought an Xbox. Other than that, I can't say I have in the sense your talking.
I've done many crazy and stupid things..even as stupid as buying a game for a console I didn't own. I bought Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End for ps3.
I bought Panzer Dragoon Orta for a friend's 360, but i spent like 8.99 and played it to death, so it was no real loss to me. Dunno about anything else you would do with a game for a console you don't own.
I bought "Street Fighter 3" for the Dreamcast a few years ago, but I've never owned a Dreamcast or played one. I found the game in mint condition at EB Games for $2.99 and couldn't resist. I also bought "Lunar : Silver Star Story" for the Japanese Sega Saturn off of eBay. I'm not too sure why I did it, but at the time I was wanting to collect foreign games. Kinda dumb, since I don't speak or read Japanese. Oh, and I bought "Capcom Generations" for the UK Playstation (PAL format), because I thought it would work with a mod-chip. It doesn't, but I eventually bought the Capcom Collection for the PS2 anyways.
I bought the YS games for TG-CD before getting the system so I could rip the redbook audio off them. I couldn't find anyone that was selling the OSTs. /shrug
well i have just once,,, that was before i got my 360 i was intended to get one in the first place, on launch but since i had to cancel my preorder , i missed out at launch so i just got 4 games and an xbox 360 controller,, bought the 360 1 month later ,, with a hdd , but i never bought a game for a console i never had intended to own bc i own all of em now except a 32x add on and a master system and any thing before an atari 2600
I have bought some games in advance of me actually buying the system but I never have bought games for a system that I would never, or have never, owned. The closest that I would come to that sort of territory is that I have bought a handful of import games for the PS2 despite the fact that I don't have an import system. My friend has some and I just play them when I go to his house or he brings his system to mine (which he does quite often).
I bought most of my Sega Megadrive games before I bought the actual console as I was waiting for a good deal on ebay for a boxed Megadrive II to come up!
With the console releases a lot of games are coming out just before the system. I can't help but go get the games and accessories the week before. Did it with 360 and PS3 launch.
Yes. I bought a copy of Sonic 2 even though i don't have a Genesis. I also kept Twisted Metal after I sold my PSP, and Donkey Kong Country 2 before i got my SNES.
Sometimes i just buy the game and gt the system later, if I don't think i'll be able to find the game again.
No, but I will soon have a lot. My cousin will get a PS3. Since he just lives next to my house, I think I'll get a 360 instead of PS3 too. If that happens, I will buy PS3 games and play it on his PS3 and he'll buy 360 games and play it here. We have different taste on games so I have to buy games on PS3 that I like and vice versa.
I personally have never done it, butI have friends that did. They're collector's, though. My friend has a factory sealed copy of Chrono Trigger but no SNES. He's a collector, though, so he didn't buy it with the intention of playing it. If you want to play it, it's pointless to buy a game without the system, but if you're a collector, it's a different matter entirely.

Complete or just the cartridge? I see just the cartridge on a fairly regular basis around where I live, but hardly ever complete. I did stumble upon a factory sealed copy of Final Fantasy for the NES once, and it had a very, very hefty price tag on it ($799, if memory serves me right).
My friend gave the copy of Turbo Duo's Dracula X to me while I didn't have Turbo Grafx 16/Duo, yet. Now, I got PSP's Castlevania Dracula Chronicles. Yeah, I will get PSP, soon before I will get a job. ;_;
It wasn't me who did it, but my mom bought that Simpson's movie game for DS when she was supossed to get it for Gameboy Advanced. (There were no copies of it and she bought the wrong one) I'm the only hardcore gamer so I'm the only one who noticed! :|

I was grounded as a teenager and my Genesis was taken away for a couple of months. The SNES came out at the same time I was grounded. I had a part-time job at the time, so I'd buy SNES games and leave/play them at my friends' houses.
I bought zelda: TP for the wii about 5/6 months before i found one -_-' Also my aunt bought me a xbox game when i had a ps2. i said thank you and returned it to the store when he left.
I bought Guitar Hero III for the Wii. It's mainly because I plan on getting a Wii like in 2 weeks and plus the GH3 was on sale for like $70 and I was gonna buy it anyways.
I bought a complete copy Michael Jackson's Moonwalker for Sega Genesis back in 2005, and to this day I still don't have a Genesis. A buddy of mine does, and I suspect one day I'll bite the bullet and get the console. So why would I buy the game? It's easy. This game is arguably one of the most wrong and shamefully humerous games I can think of. I mean it's Wacko Jacko on a quest to save children. How much more horrifying can a game get? I honestly feel a bit nauseous for having it.
There was a time when my mom accidentally bought me Doom for the Sega Genesis 32X when I didn't even have one. Now, I have one, but it doesn't have the right cords. :?
BTW, for those who don't know, the 32X was an addon for the Genesis.
