Honestly, a disappointment considering the matrix hype
Game play: When you first sit down to play enter the matrix you may think that its one of the best Matrix based games you have ever played. Then you reach level 4 where you’ll start to notice that the game and story are all horribly slapped together. Players take on the role of two background characters from the matrix series and work their way through a series of missions. The story remains quite dull and not really worth the time and while using bullet time to send a police officer or agent flying into a wall is fun for a little while the joy just doesn’t last. Another so called plus was the cut scenes that were made during the filming of the movie. Now during the hype that was the matrix this would seem like a pretty exciting thing. New parts of the story revealed right?? Well to be perfectly honest, the cut scenes aren't worth playing though the entire game for. This coupled with the numerous glitches, and other problems that come from not beta testing well enough (they were rushing to meet the deadline to get the game out at the same time as the movie or so I hear) Enter the Matrix only disappoints.
Graphics: Considering what we have all seen the XBOX being capable of doing, Enter the Matrix was once again another let down. One of the impressive parts of the game though was the reflections on the marble floor that you get in the post office level if you have high definition television, but most of the other graphics seemed choppy and the animations were once again repetitive.
Sound: The same old same old sound tack that you heard in the movies. This is actually one of the parts where enter the matrix shines though. However, the sounds were once again choppy and this aspect of the game seemed like it was done…well…sloppy. So the only plus here is that you actually get music and sound effects that you would expect in the matrix films.
Control: To say the least the controls was one of the better aspects of the game. Would I recommend the PC version for the mouse and keyboard set up vs. the Xbox? Yeah, probably. But overall, the control system could have been a lot worse.
Replay Value: One play through may be asking too much. Something that I don’t think I would want to own.
Cheats and Modifications: Well one nice little Easter egg you can find though the hacking portion of the game (a very matrix style of a cheating system) is the ability to unlock the sword. Once you get this little gem you’ll watch and be amazed at its wonderful animations and the ability to kill enemies with ease. Then you’ll get bored with it and realize your back at the same old same old.
Multiplayer: There is actually a multiplayer mode. It’s another hidden aspect of the game. Although once again this is not really impressive either. While you can play vs. duels against each other, players will be disappointed to discover they can’t use the bullet time effects that the single player mode offered them. They’ll also be disappointed that the characters you get to choose to fight are mainly based on the levels that you choose so no character selection. So it’s basically watching the same combos over and over again.
Overall: If you really have the money to waste then go and rent just to see what the hype is about. But here is what I would advise: 1. don’t buy the game, 2. don’t waste time trying to play through the game if you want to just see the cut scenes, instead just get invincibility and run through the levels as fast as you can. 3. If you’re not a matrix fan then avoid this game like the plague, because it will only make you that much more annoyed with the matrix franchise.
