SUPER ADDICTIVE. SUPER GOOD FUN. Dynasty Warriors 4 Is One Of The Best Games I Have Ever Played And I Regret Trading It.
Dynasty Warriors 4 is the latest installment, in the Dynasty Warriors Series. While the others shared a little bit of flaws they were good none-the-less. With Dynasty Warriors 4 everything that made the past games less then perfect has been remedied. i am very happy to say that Dynasty Warriors 4 is the best in the series and is probobly the closest a dynasty warriors game will come to being perfect.
Gameplay : Ok lets start off with the meat of the game, the gameplay. You can choose from 9 characters at the start of the game(3 from each kingdom), more will be unlocked as you go through the story mode the total ammount of characters you can have when everyone is unlocked is 42. The controls are fairly simple the sqaure button is attack(4-6 hits depending on the weapon level) The X button is jump, triangle is charge attack , etc. nothing to complicated The gameplay is pretty simple. like the 3 other games before it, you go around various battlefields and fight hundreds upon thousands of soldiers(literally) across 50 different stages and the objective is ussually to kill the enemy commander, but this varies from stage to stage. Sounds like your basic hack and slash right?Wrong Along the way you try to level up our characters stats, they are HP, Attack, defense and musou. you can also find various items and special orbs(these give your attacks special effects) in order to increase your performance. this really increases the replay value of this game. Another addition to the series is the use of seige engines(catapults, battering rams, bridges) these dont play a very big part in the battles though and i was issipointed with this. You may remember from the last game that you could find different weapon upgrades in boxes, well this idea has been thrown out the window. now instead of finding weapon upgrades your weapon its self levels up depending on how many enemie officers you kill. The weapon levels range from 1-10, every 3 levels your weapons graphic changes, this is a nice addition. Overall the gameplay in this game has improved very much, and i am pleased with the improvement.
This game follows the 3 kingdoms era, in historical chine, not sure of the date. anyway i dont know much about the story. Basicly there are 3 kingdoms trying to gain control over china, every character in the game has real historical signifigance and every battle actually happened at some point. This helps to spicen the game up more
Graphics : The graphics have improved somewhat over the last game, the character models are more realistic, from the animations to what they look like overall. The battlefields have been improved substantially from the last game, they look very realistic this time. there are borken spears sticking up from the ground, rice fields, broken trees, you name it its there. The rain and snow effects have also been improved and they look great. For the most part, the graphics were simply excellent. The troops and the generals, as well as the other blandishments looked authentic to their time, which is supposed to be hundred or thousands of years ago. I did not notice any frame rate or lag problems. However, no extras were really added in. Troops look the same despite the fact that each troop, even if they are of the same “kind”, is supposed to be unique. The armor was not as well done as expected. Also, the background, was still static.
Sound : I have always enjoyed the music in the dynasty warriors series, they did change some of it in this version though, although it still sounds nice. The music in this installment has more of a chinese feel to it, and helps make the battles more intense and realistic. There is nothing troundbreaking or revolutionary in terms of the sound here, all in all its good.
This game probobly has the most replay value out of any game out for the ps2 thus far. there are 42 different playable characters and each musou mode takes 4 or more hours to complete, 42-4 hours+ alot of replay. plus you can alwasy go back in free mode and try to find beter upgrades for your items or orbs. Overall this games replay value is immense, there is no other game like it.
If you have any of the previous dynasty warriors this is a defenite buy, if you havent played any of the other games in the series, this is just as good a game to start on as any. I am very happy with this game overall and i feel it is the most well spent 50 dollars i have ever payed for a game.
