It definitely hasn't aged well, but it's still a lot of fun to play. Provided you have the patience.

I loved this game when I was younger. I used to drop money into the arcades like it was nothing trying to get through this game. Then later on the Sega CD version came out, and .... while I didn't have one at the time, a friend of mine did.

So I saved up my allowance money and bought the game just so I could play it when I went over to his house. Sure, the graphics weren't anywhere near as good as I remembered them in the arcade, but it played the same and that's all that mattered at the time.

Now, fast forward to 2008. I bought it again, and it's still an amazing game. Sure, the graphics are still horrible. The Genesis/Sega CD's selection of 512 colors, only 64 of which could be shown on the screen at once (and that problem wouldn't be broken until later with Eternal Champions : Challenge from the Dark Side) hardly do this game justice. Colors blend into each other, it's just a washed out mess. But they're workable. Unlike a lot of the other interactive movies of the time, the death scenes were actually different if I remember correctly. That's part of the hilarity of it watching the various ways poor Dirk dies. And when you finally make it to Daphne .... it's well worth it. Beautifully drawn character. The animation is top notch, and the attention to detail is astounding.

The control is simply in theory. Hit one of the directions or the fire button at the right time. Something in the stage lights up, move toward it (in most cases, sometimes it throws you a curve ball).

The sound .... there wasn't really much in the way of sound, but the Sega CD pulled it off nicely. And music, not much there either, but what IS there sounds good. Just not much of a selection here.

Is it fun? Yes. Is it frustrating? To no end. I STILL haven't beaten this game without a walkthrough, and I don't think I ever will. I do go through and play it from time to time just for nostalgia. This game may not be for everyone, but it can't hurt to give it a try.
