They can NEVER make an adventure game like this anymore. Will ever be ported?
This is the story. King K'Rool, Donkey Kong's old-time antagonist has stolen the stash of Gold Bananas and all of Donkey Kong's friends; everyone from favourites like Diddy to the unknown Kongs, like Lanky. This is to keep Donkey Kong busy while K'Rool powers some laser to destroy the Kong's Island.
DK receives help from friends old and new, such as Uncle Cranky, who gives potions to the Kong's giving unique abilities; Snide the Weasel requires blueprints to reveal a mysterious piece of machinery; and Candy returns (in a very suggestive design) and gives you musical instruments to help open doors and even kill enemies (There's also weapons, courtesy of Funky!)
The single-player method is very st: you need to find the 201 Gold Bananas which are scattered around eight uniquely themes levels. There are 25 Bananas in each world, but DK can't find them all himself; you'll need to free the other Kongs and use them to get other Gold Bananas another character can't reach. These are all done in a wide variety of challenges from time challenges to racing to fighting in Battle Arenas. Any fan of Rare's adventure game with see this formula as pretty close to that of the Banjo-Kazooie series. But there is more to the single player adventure than just this.
Besides Gold Bananas, you collect regular Bananas that are color-coded for each character. Bananas are used to increase progress in the game and when given to some hungry, hungry hippos, you can fight some formidable enemies. There's also Arenas where you can battle enemies to receive special items. Races, bosses, platforming... what more could you want? How about multiplayer? As soon as you rescue your first Kong, you get multiplayer for four-player split-screen combat. There are only three levels to battle on (good for ten years ago, but would be unacceptable today) and the Battle Arena, which is insanely fun.
It's hard to see anything wrong with this game. The only problem I see with this game is: when will they port it to the DS?!? They've done for other great games like Super Mario 64. Why not this. That aside, this game is a classic. One of the best adventure game on N64, if not, of all time.
