One of the most difficult yet satisfying gaming experiences that I've ever played.
User Rating: 9 | Demon's Souls PS3
The intensity of this game is difficult to describe and an experience that all gamers should have. Every fight, every skirmish in this game, no matter how easy or difficult the enemy, gives you this feeling of intense dread. Every mistake you make can have dire consequences and leave you starting all over again. Most games these days have frequent checkpoints, almost to a fault, which often times takes away the challenge of beating a level, section or game. This is not the case with Demon Souls. There checkpoints are few and far between and this is by design. Every hit point becomes that much more valuable. Each enemy you kill provides you with souls. Souls are used currency to purchase items and level up your character. The more difficult the enemy, the more souls it provides. When you die, you lose all of the souls that you have collected at the exact location where you died. You can fight your way back to that location and recover your souls, but here is the catch. If you die on your way to recovering your souls, you lose those souls forever. Consequences of death are brutal which is what makes this game so intense and makes every attack, dodge, parry & block critical as you fight your way back to recover your lost souls. The great aspect about this game, which unfortunately is no loger supported, is the community aspect. You can leave hints, tips, advice, warnings, greetings, etc. for other players on PSN. Tips could be deceiving to throw you off, or they could be helpful. Choosing to ignore or follow these tips is at your own risk. However, if you leave a message and if someone reads it and recommends your message as being helpful, your character will replenish all health. There are so many great things that made this game incredible. I've never loved a game that pissed me off as much as this one. With that said, do yourself a favor and play this game if you're up for the challenge. Its one of the best games on the PS3 and was one of the main reasons I purchased a PS3 initially.
