One of the hardest good games on the Nintendo

User Rating: 8 | Contra NES
If you're a gamer you probably know what Contra is, but if you don't you're really missing out on one of the craziest games to ever grace the Nintendo Entertainment System. There really isn't any need to go in-depth in this review. Contra is simplicity at its best: just shoot everything and don't die. Easy enough right? Wrong! This game is infamous for the supreme level of cheap difficulty...but that doesn't make it any less fun than it already is. The fun is in achieving something that took you forever to master. You will die over and over again and you'll strain yourself to remember every single attack pattern of your enemies until it becomes natural to you. Contra also has one of the best multi-player experience for its time. You can hook up another controller and shoot-em-up with you buds. Just don't steal too much of their lives. The gameplay of Contra allows you to shoot in any direction you want and there are a variety of power-ups that changes your bullets (get the spray). The game is mostly platforming yet some levels changes the view into a third person shooter mode. After a while you'll want to throw your controller against the wall in mere frustration at the game's difficulty. One shot you're dead, one touch you're dead, you fall you're dead, didn't you the Konami Code? you're dead. Don't worry though, if you ever want to kill aliens 8-bit style, Contra's your game.
