My FIRST and LAST COD game!

User Rating: 2 | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 PS3

I just brought my second PS3 after not having owned one for 4 years. Naturally I brought it when CODMW3 came out so I decided to give the next gen shooter a try.

I played a lot of shooters but my favorites are "Perfect Dark on N64" and games like Rainbow Six and other tom Clancy games. Games that are shooters but make you focus on where your aiming, saving ammo, strategizing, and not just running around with a gun.

I thought COD being a NextGen Military shooter would be more realistic and offer the same. When they talk about Newer games being watered down this really is proof.

I didn't dislike the game at first I had fun with multiplayer and got a Gold Gun and reached level 56. So I did put some time in the game and placed a lot of thought behind this review. I don't buy games to hate them, I buy them to enjoy them.

CODMW3 just really doesn't offer much at all. There are only a handfull of maps and just about all of them everyone plays the same. Hide here, crouch here, ambush here, camp here, air strike, air strike, air strike game over we win.

Getting in a good firefight just isn't possible. Instead of feeling like a simulated war it feels like a giant game of lazer tag. When I saw a map and dots marking the location of my enemy I knew the game was dung. What fun is knowing where your enemy is in a war game? Battles really just turn into a game of PacMan with people chasing dots and navigating around the tight corridors of buildings.

After being familiar with all maps now, battles are redundant. Everyone knows the sweet spots on the map just like you do so games just feel like repeats of the last battles you played. Considering there's only a handful of maps it gets old way too fast (I was actually bored after 3 days of owning the game).

My biggest problem with the game is what shouldn't be a problem at all. The guns in the game have no realism to them. Assult Rifles out perform and out damage Light Machine Guns? A weapon that's design to take out complete infantry groups and vehicles? People can survive grenade launchers as long as it doesn't hit them directly? Do the devolopers know how grenades work?
AR's being able to hit targets the same distance as sniper rifles?

Just what is up with the lack of realism in this game? For a next gen I expected the mechanics to match the graphics. This is just an arcade shooter.

Speaking of shooting all I've learned from this game is that barely anyone can aim properly. Since the game doesn't really go by where the shot lands you can die if someone hits you in the elbow, foot, big toe, etc. etc. I've seen kills where people got shot in the ankle and died. WHY? What about body armor? What about hit detection? Why do players drop like waterballons after one shot?

I find myself being outgunned on my LMG while emptying 20 rounds into someone point blank center mass with no effect, only to have them walk infront of my barrel and hit me once in the shoulder and end up dying.

I can't figure out if the devlolpers try to mask their poor hit detection by counting single shots as a kill or if the game just can't tell how to credit kills properly. With the one shot no matter where you hit deal, people just drop like flies around you. The way the games made just doesn't feel like it's made to influence a calculated battle. This is just run and gun lazer tag. Ouch! you zapped me first I'm out.

Not forcing players to practice on aiming at vital areas just makes the game feel sloppy and too easy going. Being able to drop a man in 1-2 hits doesn't lead to challenging battles.

What makes the game seem even less engaging are the Kill streak rewards which are spammed over and over and over again. It's hard to have a good fire fight with constantly being hit with missles, chopper fire, etc. etc. It takes away from the game because it's overused and a good way to cheat points which is the reason why it's so overused.

This being my first COD game I'm sure fans of this series like it for all the reasons I didn't enjoy it so much and that's fine. I prefer more realistic shooting games like the Tom Clancy series that's just my style. This was on the level of Doom or Duke Nukem or silly arcade stuff like that.

I did have fun with the game but it was shortlived as it doesn't offer much. Mostly just different games within the same tired maps you've done to death. Perhaps if the maps were larger, kills streaks limited to a PER TEAM basis and not per player to where everyone can spam spam spam spam.

After having the game about 3-4 weeks and playing it here and there I realized it's better as a rental than an owner. There's barely any map content to keep the game feeling fresh.
