A Really Hard Game Back In The Day, Finally Becomes Accessible And Beatable For Modern Audiences!

Sometimes, through no real fault of a video game developer; a video game that was designed to be hard and require multiple play sessions in order to understand the mechanics of the enemy A.I. and stage layout; can be made surprisingly easy when re-released on a modern day system, due to the modern day perks that the system offers. Take this game, for instance. While this game gives the "Battletoads" top billing, I enjoyed playing as Billy, one of the "Double Dragon" brothers the most. The Dark Queen and her forces have teamed up with the Shadow Boss and his evil forces, in an effort to take over the world! While the game is mostly a brawler that would ideally require a partner to get through the reasonably hard by 1993 standards game, there IS one hover-bike section (that's thankfully a LOT easier than most of the OTHER times it has appeared in a "Battletoads" game), and one space shooting section. The reason why the game seems hard, is because the bosses REQUIRE you to use SPECIAL techniques of jump kicks, uppercuts, and knee drops in order to effectively dispose of them! While the game has now FINALLY become actually more beatable for today's audiences, thanks to its inclusion on the Nintendo Switch via its Super Nintendo Virtual Console that allows you to utilize a much needed rewind feature in order to keep your valuable health as high as possible (especially since there are no health refill items in the game), means that a game that would have once taken multiple play sessions to beat, can now take as little as 42 minutes if you play the game right! Still, the game has good graphics, good music, good sounds, good controls, and a still hard degree of difficulty for the uninitiated. If you want to understand what a hard (by 1993 standards) brawler video game is all about, I highly recommend checking out this solid effort from Rare and Tradewest. And if you like it, bring a friend to join in on the fun! Enough said, true believers!
